Thanks JohnZ for the info on the insulators--I'll get them ordered.

What is the solution to replacing the insulaters? They are really "chewed up" on my car, probably done on tear-down. I purchased a new after-market rag joint but no insulators came with it and I don't see a listing anywhere in after-market for them. What to do?

General Discussion / Re: powerglide tranny dust boot

Had I only known that of the 99% of this car that is available in the aftermarket, that the 1% is things like p/g tranny boot, I would have NOT destroyed the old boot. Even though the old boot had a 2" tear in it and a slight amount of "dry-rot", I could have cleaned it up and made it work. Even though this car will never be a daily driver and will never see the kind of conditions that will create a problem there, I would still like it to be in place. I will simply have to get some type of universal boot to fabricate an air/noise barrier until I can potentially find the correct boot.
Thanks for the reply PetesL48 and let me know if you think/hear of any solutions.

Thanks for the replies re: my boot issue. I actually purchased that boot from Camaro Central and it is not the correct boot. So there is some major confusion when it comes to the powerglide boot. The difference is in the depth of the molded portion of the boot that extends below the shift tunnel.  I have even tried to heat this boot to try to stretch it to fit but to no avail. I really hope to find someone with an original pg shifter where the car has been converted to a 4sp car or who changed over to one of the aftermarket shifters where the mechanism is different than that of the old style. Anyone else have this issue??????

General Discussion / Re: 67 interior color - red

Sorry for so long on this reply....been up to my neck in this car while still trying to run a business!! Thanks firstgenaddict for the info on the interior situation. I decided to get some color swatches from some of the repop companies that make the seat material. I tentatively plan on using TMI and their material matched perfectly with paint samples that matched interior color found in "conspicuous" areas. That turned out to be the lighter of the two paint options. So we went with that, and will now try to stay consistent throughout the rest of the car's interior (soft parts etc)
Got the car back from paint today and it looks great. Complete exterior as well as interior. And now the fun begins (re-assembly)! I'll try not to be too much of a pest but this forum has been a huge help so far. Seems everyone has experienced what I have so far!

The most correct way to accomplish assembly line correct appearance is to use the backs of the colored plastic parts to match against, this has been found to most correctly replicate the original appearance.
In all likely hood there will be more than one shade and or color, the colored interiors were notorious for their mismatch, however survivors and cars restored using NOS parts don't match perfectly so many have come around to the realization that the cars were not "perfect". Personally I like the calculated degree to which things were allowed to pass based on the volumes being produced.

General Discussion / powerglide tranny dust boot

Help! just got my car back from paint and ready to begin re-assembly. I have discovered that my powerglide shifter "dust boot" is in bad shape. (torn and rotted) I have spent most of the day looking on the internet for a replacement and I am striking out. Anyone have any suggestions????? I can find all kinds of T-400 boots but they are not as deep and will not accept the powerglide "stalk" that fits into the boot, which is exposed under the floor pan.

General Discussion / 67 interior color - red
« on: October 24, 2011, 05:30:49 PM »
My 67 R/S is nearly ready for paint and we are trying to determine the correct interior color formula for the red interior. Looking at an original color chart, there may be two possibilities which are both Lucite colors. One is decribed as "red" with a formula of 9366LM while the other is 9201LM and is described as "dark red". Some portions of my original interior appear to be dark red while kick panels, convertible top boot, and other areas less prone to modification by the sun appear to be a brighter red. I will be replacing the entire interior but have not ordered the seat material or carpet or door panels and just want to be sure that the dash and upper doors are the correct color of red so that I will not need to repaint the dash later. Any ideas on the correct interior color formula????

I am putting a 3.55 ring gear and pinion in my 8.25 ten bolt, it came with 2.56( I think) is there any thing that I should know about the swap? I set up the pinion to the specs with the gear set, and the ring gear is way off from the backlash setting.(about 100 thou.) any help on this?

I am in the process of restoring a 67 RS convertible that had been owned by my father-in-law since 1975. I would like to know the benefits of the Vin registry and how to how to register it. This is a complete numbers matching R/S 327PG. We have the original protecto-plate and latest title, last transferred 5/23/75.

VIN 124679N665238
Is it in the Registry?  If not, where can I input data?  Thanks!
