Mild Modifications / 69 Camaro Factory 396 BB, Hood Clearance Question
« on: December 21, 2021, 08:02:13 AM »
I have a Factory BB 396 69 Camaro with the factory BB hood(not cowl) the engines out for a rebuild, will the 7520 Edlebrock dual quad air gap oval intake with twin Edlebrock carburetors fit under this BB hood without issues. Prior to pulling the engine it did have the early 5420 non-air gap dual quad and that fitted OK but never check the actual clearance before pulling the engine. I believe the Air Gap is 7/8inch taller. Help appreciated.

OK im a Ford guy but still luv Gen 1 and 2 Camaros!!

Can someone here help me the following information. Will the upper and lower control arms out of a gen 2 camaro fit a gen 1, will they bolt in and if so what affect would they have?

Well done Eric, we also use the Avon CR6ZZ as our optional wet weather tyre down here in New Zealand and have found them very good, a medium wet to dry track they are perfect, otherwise for dry racing we use either the Goodyear BS or the cheaper Hoosier HOTD bias cross ply equivalent, 25.5X8.5 front and 26.5X9.5 rear.

PS: im a Mustang racer but still luv the gen 1(and 2) Camaros.

Hi Robert and Jon

No i didn't make it this year as i've too much happening back here and my dad recently had a stroke so dealing with that currently, and with Maserati as the marque it was less incentive for me to fly up as i knew it would be a smaller event, first Monterey i've missed in 10 or so years. I had plenty of mates attending so they kept up with the goings on. Personally for me the Trans Am group would have been the premier class but as always plenty else to see and i'll be back next year. Heard about the Gimbel crash which is always a shame with these old historic cars. Great to hear Mike Eddy in his Falcon getting the sportsman award, well deserved i say.

Robert, Paul's old Camaro is getting winter fresh-in up for our coming season which starts next month, its a very cool car and i've been working on that white 68 advertised in Vintage Motorsport recently but think it got sold so keep your eyes out for others. We also have Australian Trans Am(Replicas) group over for our Historic Festival in January and have to be in Sydney in 3 weeks time to attend there next event for PR, where does the year go?

As always keep in-touch guys and take care

Thanks for some insight on the wheels, Steve. That Camaro in your photo looks very nicely done although the roll cage looks to be patterned after more modern designs rather than something from back in the day. I'm glad you found some usefulness in the rule books I posted. It provides some sort of validation for the effort being put in here. Best of luck with that new HMC group. I suspect it will be a roaring success.

Off-course what we are doing down here Jon is building a current day non historic old car racing class to old school rules but unfortunately(or fortunately) in todays world safety items like roll-cage specifications have to be built to current Motorsport NZ regulations along with seat design, belts, etc! we have the good ol mother England and the queen to thank for all this, LOL.

Yes im a fan too, he even raced F5000 down here in New Zealand in the 70's but unfortunately i never got to see him race!!

I remember him having a small part in the movie "Heart like a Wheel" about Shirley Muldowney

Didn't know about his ill health, sorry to hear.

Considered a engine guru down here in New Zealand this book is a must!! he built quite a few jet boat engines for river racing back in the 70's

I meet Pat many years ago by chance and have been friends since, im sure he still owns both Camaro's, i think he traded a 427 Cobra on the Penske 69 Camaro, he also has a Penske Lola Can Am car, SB Cobra and 66 Shelby vintage race car. Pat and his son Kiel race with RMVR and feature in "Victory Lane" from time to time.

Very nice guy Pat.
