Sorry Ed. This shows my ignorance.
Where do I look for the carrier casting number?

Do I have to remove the differential back cover to determine which series is in the rear axle?

I have not been able to find any thing in-the CRG site on the different carrier series.
Is there a link that explains the differences and how one can identify which is which.

Thanks!

Thanks Ed.

You're right, it is confusing. Now my car has everything you described but with one difference...the red wire you described as #10 is a single (non split) orange and black wire. My car does not have power windows so...no pink wire to split off.
The diagrams shows that the number 10 wire enters the cabin at the side of the fuse panel.....strange....there is no hole there.

I am going to assume that the  red power feed wire from the CB goes into the cabin using the upper hole (shown in boston14's picture) and I will run that directly to the power top switch. I will assume that is right until someone tells me otherwise.

Thanks for your help Ed and boston14.

Thanks boston14.

So the first thing is that mine is a '68. I'm wondering if '68 Conv owners can tell us which hole the  power wire coming from the circuit breaker goes through? Is it a red wire that goes through the hole just above the fuse box (like boston's 69) or is it supposed to be an orange and black wire that goes from the breaker into a hole just below the fuse box (like the one in my car). I'm not sure if mine was "tampered" with...can anyone validate which is correct for '68.

Thanks!!

In a previous post one of our members (boston15) posted the picture at the URL below. The picture shows the vacuum lines that go to the head light switch for an RS model. Just bellow the vacuum line grommet there is a red wire. (It is some kind of a power feed).  What is this for?

http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=7540.0;attach=6057;image

I have an RS Convertible and the power feed I have is an orange and black wire that comes from the circuit breaker. But my orange and black wire feeds into the dash at a spot just below the fuse box. I cannot figure out what the red wire is in this picture. My car does have a hole at this spot. Am I missing something?

Is it possible this wire is the power feed for a car that has power windows?

Restoration / Re: Dash Pad Restoration
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:46:55 PM »
bc69,

I still have the dash pad that came with the car when I purchased it. Looking at  it closer, I notice that there are small spots where the color has "chipped" off and the black under color is coming through. I have to assume that this was probably a black dash that was dyed or painted..and since my interioir is medium blue, I would say it is not the factory dash pad.

Tried posting this several times and had issues with the pics..hope it doesn't end up posting duplicates...

I don't think I can make a fair comparison between my unit and the Knoch pad. I think you would have to have them side by side to really compare.
I am not sure if the pad that came with my car is even original. I can tell you that the replcament I purchased  is better quality than the one I pulled out. It fits better, is stronger and has clearer grain.

I have attched some pics. Please reveiew and judge for yourself. The funny color is just the reflection off teh blanket I used to protect the pad from the surface of my workbench.

Hope this helps!!

I actually installed it and removed it, because the car is at the paint shop.

So if you don't mind the pictures of the dash as a "stand-alone", yes, I can get some for you. I can probably get a close up of the texture, too.
If stand-alone is okay, I'lltake the pics tonight.

I just purchased one from Heartbeat City. They have two qualities, I purchased the more expensive one and I am happy with the fit,  color and texture. I can't comment as to whether or not it is the exact texture as the original.

Restoration / Wheel Well Trim for 68 RS
« on: January 17, 2011, 04:30:37 PM »

I have read several posts on this subject, in several forums and I'm still confused...(Sorry).
(I hope no one gets offended that I am asking several forums the same question..but I have received mixed answers and really need some direction here)

I know that the rear wheel well trim on an RS is different..and I know that the part numbers are:

7795063 Right rear wheel molding
7795064 Left rear wheel molding

However, here is the confusion:  I have a been told that the front  is ALSO different on the RS  than on  regular trim.  But I cannot find a separate part number. I can only find the numbers below which  is for both trim styles.

9785880 Left front wheel molding
9785881 Right front wheel molding

To add to the confusion, I have booklet called: 68 Camaro Illustrated Facts (Features and Specification Manual). This book shows a picture of an RS and it clearly shows wheel trim that only goes to the horizontal trim and NOT below on front AND back wheels.  The booklet appears to be of the correct vintage and has very detailed specifications and feature list. (But no where can I find evidence that this is a GM manual.)

What is the correct part number for the front wheel well moldings for a '68 RS? Are the front wheel moldingon an RS  in fact different than the regular trim cars?

Clarification on this would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks and again my apologies for re-hashing this old topic.
