Be sure to post your info on Lost Muscle Cars on facebook. I have seen quite a few cars found on there.

I believe the one ordered by Dick Arons was not a double. It took some time to be shipped,so Arons got a red 375 HP instead. Swapped in a 427 and ran super stock with it. Ben Wenzel ended up buying it of the lot. It also had a chrome front bumper, the only Berger Copo I know of that did.

Spent much of my career in materials management  Will try not to get long-winded.

Every model year [MY], Sales, Marketing and Operations have to do a Sales and Operations Plan [SOP]. First thing, how many of these cars are we going to sell?  That determines the capacity of the manufacturing plant(s), determines a master production schedule and drives a forecast for component material requirements. From there, planning drills down to how many coupes, converts, 6 cylinders, 8 cylinders, transmissions, etc. Each component, common or optional, has to have a plan. The plants that supply these components will produce based on this plan. Some parts will be in continuous production [base engines, etc] some low-volume stuff will be produced in batches to be held in inventory at the assembly plants. Some special components were supplied only when specifically ordered [M22s, ZL1 engines].  I have read that the demand for Z/28s was well over forecast, greatly exceeding the capacity of the plant that produced engines. That meant there was virtually no room for error on releasing Z/28 bodies out of the bank for final assembly. In those days, I doubt the systems did any kind of material-assurance so someone had to ensure engines were in stock before releasing a body from the bank.

The second consideration is as noted, striping. The final assembly line had to balance; they could not run back to back higher labor content units like RS or Z/28.  So maybe every 10th or 12th car down the line was a Z/28 to keep things balanced.

Just for the record, bodies were assigned a VIN as they entered the bank. Cars were not built in VIN order. There are sequentially VIN-numbered Z/28s and Z11s; they were not final-assembled together.
William, don't ever be worried about being long winded. I read your posts twice,I learn a lot from them!.

General Discussion / Re: 15 x 8 Backspacing question

I ran 9 inch slicks on 15x10,5 inch backspace wheels on my 69 without any issues. If memory serves me correct, I did not have another 1/2 inch of clearance to play with.

Is that RP oil synthetic? It's generally not recommended to use synthetic on break in.

If he would consider just selling the car I think it would go a lot faster.  But for now he only wants a trade..  No matter what its history during its life as a racer its a X33 D80 car.  No matter how you slice it; it's a Z car.   I wouldn't care if it had a Cummins diesel between the fenders I'd still consider it a Z.  For the record the car is very, very clean and appears to present great.  If I were in the market for a 69 Z that I wanted to race this would be the car I would consider.
He had the car listed on RacingJunk a while back.I think he would sell or trade it.

A bit more info on the car.My friend recalls the 302 was already gone when the second owner purchased the car in the very early 70's.It was tubbed around 1990 and had almost no street miles on it when he sold it to the present owner around 96.
If nothing else we are giving Mike and the car some more exposure. GLWS.

That's the Camaro I was referring to.I didn't mean to put anyone on the spot when I posted about 1:00 am after a long day(try dealing with a RacePak for 2 weeks that shows the clutch graph when and if it wants to,lol.) But I agree with Kurt,it's a good discussion.
I also have long dealt with people, and I would not lump Bullett65,Gary or Kelley in with them, who gave me grief for 30 years when raced my Copo. It was amazing how many 'experts' said X-11's were 350's and there was no such thing as a RS Copo.

No need to apologize,Bullitt.I might have come on a bit strong... I had a suspicion I knew this car,so I talked to one of my best friends who knows the car better than I do.From the contact email name given in his add,it matches the owners name of a 69 Z/28 he knows well.A friend of his family purchased the car in 70 or 71,and raced it,possibly in stock(along with my friends father, who ran a matching Z/28)He thinks Paul, the family friend, sold it to the present owner. It has never left the Grand Rapids area. For whatever reason,it was backhalved at some point. I could not open the pictures in the add but the last time time I saw the car,I think it had Crager SST's on it.
I also respectfully disagree with the feeling that once an car is modified,it loses it's original identity. If true, there are  more than a few Z/28's,Copo's etc.,that were restored from race cars that are worthless, lol!   Take care.

General Discussion / Re: Trans Shifting Issue

Let us know how it works out. I have a friend who went to synthetic late last year and ran into the same problem. He is sure the trans has got other problems and it is not the oil causing it. Parked it,has not driven it at all this year.

General Discussion / Re: Holley Carb Leak?

Who says he does not have a vacuum leak?  Shafts should not leak gas. As far as liquid filled gauges, I've seen on my own car as well as one other they can be a problem. When I ran one,I was told by more than one respected stock eliminator racer to get it off my car.

Good catch Darrell.OP get rid of that liquid filled gauge.Check your pressure again, the bowl screws, and the pv gaskets.I'm not sure if your setting your float level correctly.Call Holley or better yet a good carb shop to make sure on your method. And I think your baseplate/throttle shafts are worn.

Now that I think about it, if the accelerator pump was adjusted so there was tension on the pump lever at rest, could it be forcing fuel up thru the shooter when the engine was off?
