Restoration / 1969 AIR emission exhaust manifold tubes
« on: May 16, 2011, 04:56:15 PM »
Does anyone know if you have to put the extension tubes in the exhaust manifolds before you put the tubes on? Its a non functional system, as per Bill Hodel, who happens to be on vacation til May 28. AIR tubes are plugged and air pump vanes removed. The tubes dont seem to tighten down 100% and might need that extra spacing to properly tighten. Do they need to be shortened? Any info will be appreciated.

Restoration / 169 Cowl Induction Hood
« on: August 05, 2010, 10:29:19 PM »
Question on aftermarket cowl induction hoods for 1969 Camaros. I need to purchase one and wondered who has the best quality and most accurate of the hoods. Are they all made by one or two vendors or are they all imported? Different companies advertise their hoods as coming from OEM tooling. I find this hard to believe. I am a 35 year Diemaker who works for GM. I'm sure these tools are long gone. They only run service parts for 7 to 10 years. That being said: what is my best option for getting one if I can't get an original? How is AMD metal? Classic sells one that is more money, but is this the same hood as other companies, just charging more? Any thoughts or past experiences would be appreciated.

Restoration / 69 subframe mounting dimensions for body stand
« on: August 07, 2009, 11:34:22 PM »
I have made a portable body stand for my 69 Z28 that I will soon start to restore. Does anyone know the dimensions from one mounting hole on the subframe to the other? I need to make upright supports and wondered what the dimensions are, either overall or from the center of the car out. I would think where the body mounts to the subframe would be a suitable location. Would like rear dimensions also, but not sure where everyone supports the body back there. any thoughts would be appreciated as to dimensions and ideas to support the body during restoration. Thanks

Restoration / 1969 Gas Tank
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:34:09 PM »
Question about gas tanks for first generation camaros. Getting ready to restore a 69 Z28 which is all there and original. Would like to replace the gas tank. What is the current thinking on this. Are the reproductions concours correct? Is is better to just repaint the original? I like the new "look" of the galvanized reproductions ,but how accurate are they to original GM tanks? Do they pass for originals? And what are the differences, if any? Thanks in advance for any info.
