Thanks, I was wondering if that might not be how they do it in the factory...i appreciate the info. We have a local restoration shop that has them in stock, I think i will go have a gander at the repros!

Restoration / 67 SS Hood Louvers

Has anyone ever tried to restore the chrome accents on the tips of the louvers? Looks pretty much impossible to get right to me, but was just curious. The existing ones are original and in otherwise very good shape, so i've not been able to make myself pull the trigger on the repros yet

Thanks.... That is a strange color....almost looks black at night, and as you correctly point out, differs quite a bit between sun and shade

This is my (simplistic) website    http://67rsss.webs.com/   there are several pix on the Exterior tab that show the color in different light

The Pypes Racepro transverse-mount muffler has a pretty nice sound!

At the risk of maybe repeating a question (I checked the archives and couldn't find it put quite this way)..is there a definitive answer to what the correct set-up is for a 67 SS 350 in terms of PCV valve, Air Cleaner, valve covers and related tubes and hoses? I'm running an open element air cleaner (chrome), with the PCV valve in the LH valve cover, and a plug in the PCV port in my oil filler tube (also chrome). The oil filler tube has a sealing-type cap, also chrome. Valve cleaners are chrome (plain, non-scripted) and I have a breather in the hole in the RH valve cover. I think virtually all of it has some aspect of it that is incorrect, but it works pretty well.

I've seen the new repro chrome valve covers, scripted with no holes, which purport to be correct, and are very nice, and would also prompt me to change around a good bit of stuff. Also, I believe I've seen the open element air cleaner depicted as a "correct option", but can't get completely comfortable whether it is or not...

Any help  or input will be much appreciate

Just curious what experience people have with the degree of accuracy on their Trim tags, specifically 67 from Los Angeles if that matters. Mine is an SS/RS Convertible. I've had it since 1985, long before there was tons of repro parts available, and while it was in fair shape I guess when i got it, it was in no way, shape or form restored or attempted to be passed of as such. It sees to have the original floor, bosy panels, etc, and the only evidence of any collisions is a not terribly serious one at the right rear.

The trim tag lists, accurtately I think, the vast majority of the options (PT, PW, Tinted Glass, Fold Down Seat, Black Deluxe Interior with Buckets, Royal Plum Exterior, SS350, RS, Interior Decor Group, Console, Powerglide, Deluxe Seat Belts and Rear Bumper Guards). However, it also lists Rear Seat Speaker, which while i may not know what I'm talking about, does not seem too likely with a convertible, and does not call out headrests on the bucket seats, which it has (it shows 765Z rather than 765Y), and also does not show the code for Remote Drivers Side Mirror. I can't help but wonder what the chances would have been that someone who was slapping a car-that has no real sign of trauma- together prior to 1985 would have just happened to have replaced the seats with ones with headrests and a drivers door with a remote mirror.

I have always assumed that the Tag was wrong and the items in question are in fact original, but as i said, was just curious if anyone else had had similar experience?

Thanks..sorry to ramble on by the way

No offense, I have to go with Bjv69ss on this one...but then again, I have never gotten the appeal of the whole resto-mod concept on any level, especially the extreme examples

not sure about 2131's, but 2451's work real well with power steering

General Discussion / Opinions requested
« on: March 26, 2010, 05:10:37 PM »
Hi, I'd like to get some opinions if I could....car is a 67 SS/RS, bucket seats, black deluxe interior, (with white trim bands of course) and headrests. The driver's seat has for a long while had a tear about 2" long, between the white band and the black material, located right where the bottom part of the seat and the seat back meet. The interior is original and otherwise in good shape. From what I've seen, some of the repro seat covers look pretty good, others not so much.

So, choices seem to be

-find someone who can professionally/neatly stitch it
-replace the seat cover, either complete or just the bottom part, and have it not match the rest of the interior perfectly in all likelihood
-replace all of the seat covers and lose the originality
-leave it alone

Any opinions?

Thanks!
