General Discussion / Re: How FAST Do You Drive?
« on: June 23, 2008, 02:56:25 AM »
ive gotten my 427 to a quick 100 and it was tight, didnt feel spooked about bein light in rear end at all. even at 100 she was pulling like holly monkey! no mods either, no subframes no special shockes. just good ol camaro engineering. dont get me wrong, that 427 with an M21 and 410s wants to tweak and twist the nose off for sure! and when it cracked my windshield doing that, it all made sense!!

Restoration / Re: camaro brakes
« on: June 15, 2008, 09:49:10 PM »
as a professional brake technition, i suggest you loosen the master cylinder from the booster. open only the rear bleeders and as soon as you get fluid close them off. Then go to the front and do the same. MAKE SURE that all 4 wheels have gravity bled with the master loosed away from the booster, and also do not put the master cap on as it will bleed faster with it off. now once you have made all four wheels drip, tighten the master back to the booster. NOW recheck the bleeding at the wheels, reopen the rear and make sure they still drip, then reopen the front and make sure they also drip. If none of them do you want to check the rod that goes into the master from the booster for proper length!! if it moves those internal pistons at all it can block the comp ports and you will never bleed it. try this and let me know!!

General Discussion / 69 Z WOES...THANKS GUYS
« on: June 10, 2008, 08:48:22 PM »
thanks for confirming what i though might be the prob. The 30-30 will go back in the engine soon, then im sure the car will be back into the mid 13s. sounds like the difference in the cam may be 50+ horsepower.  not worried about the lack of low end grunt since the gear ratios first through third will be 4.27 if i had an M21. then back to 3.73 in fourth.  the car ought to pull pretty hard through the 1/4 mile now. Thanks again for all the responses. next mission is to get that 427 car of mine on the track and search for mid 12s, or better!! AWESOME SITE HERE!!

General Discussion / Re: bumpers

well as a member of the GOODMARK INDUSTRIES team, our 67-68 X bumpers are nice. We have new 69 X bumpers that fit real nice also. there is no substitute for your OE rechromed unless it is rusted to the bone and back. or if its bent bad or just not worth it. youve got a choice of nice repro or rechrome your OE for a whole lot more money and time!!

i believe Dakota Digital is making a pretty nice piece. I remember seeing one in a camaro here at a local car show. now their digital gauges come with it i believe, but is a sweeeet piece. kinda pricey if i remember the guy talking about it.

buddy of mine has a car like that except that it had the 295hp 350, 3speed, DEALER installed gauges, 3.42 10bolt 8.2.  he has the build sheet that proved the above. then the window sticker proved optional installed gauges at the dealership!!

Originality / Re: 69 Steering column paint (black int) What color ?
« on: June 08, 2008, 05:36:07 PM »
i just looked at my 3 cars  with original interiors and all the colums are semi gloss. they are not gloss for any reason. appears to be the same glossyness like the inner fenders or such. gm used a semi gloss black for those i think.  i bet it was painted semi gloss due to the lack of gloss on the dash and console pieces. hope this helped!

General Discussion / how fast were they??
« on: June 07, 2008, 11:43:05 PM »
my camaro is an 11.5:1 L72 427, M21, 4.10 gears, L88 cam, 2.25/1.88 valves.  car pulls super hard to 7000, but i have never taken down the track. back in the day just how fast in the 1/4 were these cars? can it break into the 11s on drag radials and traction bars?? its a tribute balwin/motion clone.  done my homework on those cars, just need to get the boss to understand the mistress and the need to finish the restoration!  new here, but a true camaro-muscle car lover. 3-69 camaros in the family and a 70 396 fourspeed Chevelle for the boy...........

General Discussion / 69 Z WOES AT THE TRACK!
« on: June 07, 2008, 09:44:52 PM »
recently we took our standard bore 302 car to the track and was DEPRESSED!!  the engine is still the original pieces, block, heads, internals, 472 intake, DZ carb with 72/82 jets in it. the only change was the cam. we took the 30-30 out and put in the LT1 cam because of torque and cruzability. at the track it ran 14.5 with headers, M/T 275/50/15s 25psi, 38 total advance, 110 race fuel, and 3.73 gears with an M20. so actually the gears 1-3 are more like 4.27 with an M21. it ran 96 mph! HOW SAD!! pittiful!!!!!shifting at 7000!! is the LT1 cam a joke at the track?? does the 30-30 need back in the engine?? HELP!
