Mild Modifications / Re: 67 Camaro Converitble power top conversion
« on: October 20, 2009, 05:37:38 PM »
The manual/power top frames are different.

Yea, I know. I have a customer that wants to use his manual top frame for power. I told him not too, but he says he wants to modify his to work. So hence the question, does anyone have any information of what is needed to modify the manual top for power? Thank you.

Does anyone have or know of where any information is on modifying the manual top frame to be used with as a power top? I know the manual top frame will not hold up unless it is modified or reinforced.

Thank you.

Initially, I was speaking with another gentleman behind the counter.  But, when he gave me the news, he did get Bob - and we talked for quite a while.  He was a real nice guy and a great help.

Yes, Bob has a real good understanding of first gen Camaros. Unfortunately, he does not work at Classic Industries anymore.

Back in the 60's and 70s we used to set the dwell at 26 degrees to increase rpm before point bounce.

Clutches, go to Advanced Clutches, Rob Youngblood in ID or McLeod in CA, they are your best bet and superior quality.

Jerry

I have used Mcleod since 78. I used another company ONCE. Never again. BM now owns Mcleod.

There is a 67 Camaro that comes in here for parts. It has a trailer hitch on both the front and back. The rear there are actually two.

How can I tell what starter I have so I can get the right flywheel?

153 tooth -- starter mounting bolts are inline
168 tooth -- starter mounting bolts are off set (staggered)

I've used Clevite 77s since 78 on all SBCs I've built. We are talking a few hundred. Mains should be lower non grooved.

Sounds just like the old 69 Trans Am racer we used to watch. I've used the 140 cam myself. Cool, great job!

You wouldn't happen to have a photo of the stamping device would you?  :)

Tony Huntimer

Nope - if I had known 40 years ago that it would be a popular subject today, I would have taken pictures.

Hell, if we would have know 40 years ago ( or even 25 ) what was going to be popular now, we would all be rich.

It's SS/RS and Z28/RS. That is the CORRECT way.

But, the other way is what a LOT do-- so what ever makes you happy.
