Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1969 Camaro Z28 with options
« on: November 17, 2022, 01:51:21 AM »
My 69Z that I sold about 6 years ago had a VIN only 30 cars away from yours: N515415

It was in the group of VIN's that NCRS did not have docs for, so I wasn't able to verify the original Dealer delivery info.

It had a CE warranty 302 engine in it, but since had its original factory installed matching number M22 trans I basically knew it was a real Z/28.

Might have been sitting right next to yours going down the assembly line...

1969 - Orphans / Re: V0116DZ for car 124379L519304

My long ago LA built '69 RS Z was L519352 and was missing its original engine.  So close to this one !

I would have loved to run across this engine back when I owned the car, even if just for the date code information.  It was fully restored and belongs to some collector back East... probably has a "matching number" engine now.

Originality / Re: Original colors of 1st gen Camaros
« on: February 08, 2022, 11:27:19 PM »
Found this note in the CRG exterior paint code section....

1969: Colors 10, 67, 40, 61, 51, 53/51, 51/53, and 61/63 were initially special order from LOS/VN. 40, 63, 61/63 were initially special order from NOR. The special order restriction was lifted circa January 1969. Note that "special order" is different from "special paint."

My old '69 LA built RS Z/28 was code 67 burgundy.  I believe it was considered a special order color for the LA plant, but never heard a reason why it would be...

I'm heading up there in the morning as well...  If the Corvette holds up for the weekend and I don't have to fix "stuff", maybe I'll actually get to watch the TA cars play...  They are soooo much fun !  Charlie

Restoration / Re: 68 purple wire w/yellow stripe under dash
« on: June 06, 2018, 03:39:57 AM »
The approximate size/gauge of the wire would also be helpful to ID the potential usage...

Is your car a factory column shift auto, or floor shift?  Was it converted from one to the other by chance?  Console gauges or indicator lights?

I don't recall any yellow tracers wires being used and none of my spare harnesses seem to have yellow in them.  Could it possibly be a white tracer that is faded/yellowed?  White tracers are used a fair amount in the dash area.  Here are some examples:

Purple with white typically runs from the ignition switch to the neutral safety switch (heavy wire - 10 gauge).
Brown with white can be used for a generator warning lamp (light gauge wire).
Dark Blue with white might be used for the oil pressure lamp (light gauge wire).

I believe dark blu/w and brn/w were also used in some power window harnesses (heavier gauge wires).....

Of course a picture of your wire and the connector would be most helpful...

Best of luck in your search!

General Discussion / Re: Kick Panel Speakers - spacer
« on: June 05, 2018, 01:48:55 AM »
If I recall correctly, the kick panel speakers in my 1968 Camaro SS convertible utilized four loose spacers of three different sizes.  I remember dropping one through the hole in the kick panel during assembly.  Had to remove the panel to retrieve the darn thing…

On my 1969 Camaro SS convertible, the original kick panel speakers had spacers permanently attached to them so they stood off of the kick panel properly and the covers did not crush when they were tightened down.  Much easier for installation!

For ’69, the speakers were LH or RH side specific with different part numbers due to the tapered mounting angles accomplished by the spacers.  They were supposedly date coded as well.

These pics (if I get these to post correctly) shows one 1969 OEM speaker with the attached spacers, part number 7311611 (LH).

I’ve been told the following codes of 137  6847 indicated a date code of 6847 (47th day or week of ’68?).

Also shown is a GM replacement speaker without spacers from the 70’s, part number 1222971  137  69180.

Hope this helps with the visual...

General Discussion / Re: 67 GM tow hitch
« on: January 19, 2018, 08:12:41 PM »
What I find interesting about the Ebay NOS hitch, is that it shows only 1967 Camaro as the application.  To me, that would indicate it was truly a very early made part.

I doubt there would be a different part number for 1968, so I bet later produced hitch versions might have listed 1967-68 on the instructions and box.

Just an observation....

Looks just like the hitch I had on this old '68 back in the late 70's... I towed many things (probably unwisely) with that car...

Here's a couple pics of a similar clip used to hold the wire harness to the dash frame (if I can get these pics to post - this is my old '66 El Camino).

Maybe '67 Camaro's used the same type of retainer?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Dash Cluster Tag for 69
« on: May 21, 2016, 11:42:45 PM »
FYI - the ink colors on the gauge cluster tags for midyear Corvettes mean something.  Red ink is standard, green ink was used when it had the speedminder / speedwarning option.

As an example, a red ink "LA" coded cluster was the base model low HP engine gauge combination (low redline tach, 60 lb. oil pressure gauge), but a green ink "LA" coded tag was the exact same gauge combo with speedwarning.

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Sonoma Historics 2016 June 2-5

I'll be there with the "devil" Corvette....

It held up well at the recent CSRG event at Sears Point, and that was after a very significant revamp....  A few more things to dial in and I'll be done (OK, they are never done, so how about mostly done).

Hope it holds out as good at the Historics !

FYI - in case you want to say Hi - I'm the guy who's usually under the car.... (as in one of the pics, if I can get them to upload properly).

The world famous “Sig” trailer just left my house, doing once again the same job it has always done, hauling a Camaro.  Sometimes old technology is just wonderful….  Charlie

Trans-Am Camaros / Curious as to where one old T/A ended up?
« on: March 22, 2016, 02:50:30 PM »
This is just a curiosity question for you Trans Am enthusiasts on board here…

Does anyone recall a 1969 Camaro Z/28 T/A race car that was for sale in the Willows, Ca area around the late 80’s?

An acquaintance of mine, Jerry W, had the car for sale for $10K and I was interested in it, but I thought it was too expensive at the time.  It was a running car that had been raced for many years after the early series, so it had been upgraded and modified in many ways.  I didn’t buy the car, but I did buy a bunch of well used 302 parts from him…

I don’t recall any details about the car, not even the color to be honest.  But I do remember he had actual movies of the car racing in its early days which would have showed who’s car it was, paint colors, etc.

Just wondering if this small piece of history rings a bell with anyone. I always wondered what happened to that car.
