General Discussion / Re: cloning
« on: March 27, 2006, 09:43:39 PM »
i agree with and can see everyones point of view on this topic... i know that it is and has been an issue of great debate for years.   if money was not an issue, well........ i guess everyone can ansewr that one, money is always and issue, that's why the are called dreams.... but something inside me tells me to keep the car the way it was built.. as some of you have addressed already, you just do not see the originals anymore...when i think about  it, i cannot remember the last time i seen an original 6 cyl car that gramps used to drive for fun.... i can say that i have seen the SS, RS,& Z-28's all running the streets.   when was the last time someone seen a camaro all the same color, no vinyl with a 327 and 4 on the floor...because that is the way it was built...

as some of you know, i posted in decoding....i have recently confirmed that my 67 is not an RS and did not come with a vinyl top....it is a base model butternut yellow with black interior....V-8 with 4 spd trans....all the front sheet metal has been replaced under the impression that it was an RS... as that is what was on it when i purchased it....i do have "most" of the compents to make it an RS,  delima....my wife and i are nestolga buffs...i have not gone through the whole price for doing either restoration.....up to you as to what i do....i leaning towards original base model....nothing fancy, just nice...opinions?? :)

I bought my 67  18 years ago...  as i have already posted in decoding,  the car has been threw alot..it has been in storage since 1991,  lived through 2 kids, a divorce, and in my mothers garage for much of that time...i have in the course of all this relocated 650 miles away from my first car and basically forgot all about it, except for the fact that i own it....
after being reunited with it, i just wanted to thank everyone at CRG and everyone who responded to my questions...a very well put together site packed with tons of information and knowledge....i look forward to interacting with all again for guidance and support as i begin long walk down restoring my 67
thanks again

General Discussion / Re: Vinyl or Not?
« on: March 17, 2006, 03:09:09 AM »
i have already voted on this, so now i guess this is just my opinion.  some colors look good with a vinyl top.  some colors don't.  i just found out alot of information about my 67 camaro.  it was purchased in dire need of repair 18 years ago with my understanding that it was an RS with a vinyl top.  after decoding and all that, i found out it is a base model butternut yellow without a top.  not a bad color, but the black top would look alot better in my opinion.  maybe if it was a diiferent color...i.e. black, red or blue, vinyl probably not

well, thanks for everyones input...i did check the cowl tag for the 3L (RPO Z22)  it isn't there...what i orignally posted is what is there...trust me, i have checked a number of times trying to decode  it down myself
i think what i am dealing with is a clone...the wires are in the trunk for tail lights as well..like you said, they were
taped up, but present.    None the less if anyone else has any ideas or thoughts about this car, i would greatly
appriciate it
what has me puzzled is that everything is present for the RS option on the outside of the car....doors, relays etc.
is there anthing under the dash that would be a giveaway as to what this car truely is...i have not done anything with the wiring harnasses or any under dash investigating...if someone went through the trouble of hanging the sheet metal for an RS what would they have missed elsewhere...note the doors where not on the car wheni bought it....i have not put them either, so i cannot honestly say that they even work
my guess is the car was a base model camaro with a V-8, 4 sd on the floor, butternut yellow with black interior...again ideas and input....thanks in advance

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 67 RS?

forgive me, it has been many years since i have seen my car, it was last licensed in 1991...in storage since that winter... i have just been reunited with it..all these years 650 miles and 1 divorce later... the car does have the wiring and relays under the left fender,  when i bought the car it was in dire need of some attention,  i did replace the entire front end sheet metal except for the hood and lower valance panel.  every indication it was an RS car, but what gives with the rear end.... solid red tail lights with no back-up lights..no wiring present that i can tell for back-up lights...is it possible that it didn't come with them??  everything i have read since i got the car back 3 weeks ago, including the build information from GM says they all came with back-up lights...when looking at replacement body parts, tail-light panels require "you" have to cut out if RS equipped... was this the case 15 to 20 years ago as well??  there is no need to replace the tail-light panel in this car, and i have had this panel to bare metal...no holes have ever been in this one...anyone????

the lower valance panel on this when i purchased it, has the turn signals below the bumper, and i do have the head lamp doors and motors for the RS feature, also the tail lights are solid red, leading me to believe that it was an RS, however, the tail light panel has no cut outs for the back up lights below the bumper.  it is possible that this had been replaced prior to my buying the car.  all i have is what i've already posted...
thanks dave for your information, just trying to documnet as much as possible before i go for a complete rebuild
