Garage Talk / Re: fuel additive for winter storage?
« on: December 07, 2023, 01:09:54 PM »
I have five old cars and a 24 ft boat. I put non ethanol in the prewar cars and boat.  During the winter I use Sta-bil products. Everything starts right back up in the Spring.
I have used Seafoam in the past mainly to clean out carbon deposits and moisture when I first buy an old car.
For two years, thanks to Covid, we didn’t run the boat. I really thought the gas would be bad and the fuel injectors would have to be replaced. Thanks to Sta-bil Marine it started right up and ran fine.

Usually when I sign something it means I'm paying someone else! So I'll sign your calendar for free.
At Hershey I'll be at National Headquarters all week in meetings and greeting for the Library

Guess I could be accused of "milking" this one, but...
Early this year my 68 won an AACA NC Region's permanent award for best restored at the NC Transportation Museum.
This month it was announced it is the November car in the 2024 AACA calendar.
All the results of one photo shoot....

[...] When I first showed in AACA, I didn't want to give up my radial tires. It's a driver!
Just an FYI that a year or two ago Coker released a Firestone radial tire that looks like a bias ply tire.  Not sure how the AACA community works, but if they're purists, they probably like the old bias ply tires.  The  new Firestone tires are sort of the best of both worlds (though they're quite expensive).
Yes, I know about the lookalikes, and so do most of the AACA judging teams.

Congrats.  Very cool. What are those things in your grille?

From left to right, AACA Mileage Award. I've put over 1000 miles a year on that car in the last 20 years. NC Region Red Bird, equivalent to AACA Senior award. AACA Driver Participation Certification. When I first showed in AACA, I didn't want to give up my radial tires. It's a driver!

Shows how desperate they are! Hope to see you in a few weeks. Oh, and congrats.
During Covid's two peaks a lot of editors were desperate for articles. So, at the last two Spring Nationals in Charlotte we set up photo shoots. Mine happened to be one of them.
Doug, you mean I'm actually going to get to see you at Hershey???

Well, it took a couple of years, but the article on my 68 as a driver is the September - October issue of Antique Automobile.  Also, I wrote an article in August on the AACA's Oral History Project for the Speedster (an email magazine) and it has my CRG avatar picture with it.  Unfortunately, you have to be an AACA member to see it, so I'm going to try and post a couple pf pictures.

NAPA has a drip pan on sale this month for $9.99, generally $15 or more.

And to quote the late JohnZ:  "...that's a Ford part, and it didn't get installed in a GM assembly plant."

Originality / Re: Preservation of a 68 Camaro

Looking like this is going to be a great thread.

I agree!  I love the before and after contrast on pass side in photo 8.  Great idea to do this from the preservation approach.  The result is what a truly original car looks like.  Thank you for sharing your work!

General Discussion / Re: Sport coupe
« on: October 21, 2021, 09:24:55 PM »
In their literature back in the day, Chevrolet refered to the Comaro coupe as a "2-door sports coupe" and the convertible as a " 2-door convertible" (I stand corrected!).  I looked at several First Gen window stickers that I have, and under Model, it states "2-door sports coupe" or "2-door convertible".
I guess that would make sense. Kinda doubt it would say "Pony Car' in/on the literature/window stickers. I also believe Chrysler called the 'Cudas and Challegers 'Coupes'. Ford, on the other hand called Mustang 'Hardtop', 'Convertible', and 'Fastback/Sports Roof'.
Yes!  The other words that the manufacturers and media used like "Pony Car" were phrased to draw interest and sell cars...

Terms like convertible, coupe, landaulet, limousine, roadster, sedan and station wagon are body styles which came into being in the late 19th century and 20th century.  Late 20th and 21st century body styles added terms like crossover, hatchback, and sport utility vehicle.

Come to think of it, if anyone has a piece of Chevrolet Factory Literature that refers to the Camaro as a "Pony Car", I'd like to see it!
