General Discussion / Re: repoe 14 x 7 steels
« on: April 25, 2022, 06:03:21 PM »
I'm looking at repro steel wheels also to replace stock XT wheels.  69 SS with stock disk brakes on front.  Did you measure the center hole diameter and the wheel offset?  Are they hitting the calipers?  What vendor are the wheels?

Thanks

Here is the window sticker on the SS 396.  It was purchased as a drag race car but was never modified.  Still a low mileage original car.

Question was raised about N44 steering on SS 396.  It is very hard to steer even with F70-14 tires.  Parallel parking is hard.  On the 396 I would not want the quick steering box unless I had power steering.

With a Z28 it would be fun.  Just don't get large tread width tires.

I will attach window sticker in another post.  Having problems on size.

I have 2 1969 Camaros.  One is a SS 396/375 with N44 steering.  I have real window sticker to verify.  I also have a SS 350/300 with N44 steering.  I purchased both of these cars new.  The steering bpxes had AN sticker paper sticker (standard box, with "fine sector").  They both have the long pitman arm and the short steering arms.  The SS 396 is a bear to parallel park even with stock F70-14 tires.

Interesting read.  I have a 2D 1969 Camaro SS 396/375 M22 F41 N44 4:10 rear end Camaro that was built about the same time as yours. I am the original owner.  It is also an Oklahoma car.  I bet the factory had a rush of the 396/375 options about this time.  This was a drag strip project but never raced.  I got married soon after and a son delayed the project.  Lucky it did.

While you are looking at F41 cars I would like to know the label marking on the front springs and the label marking the front shocks and p/n if you can see it.  This is a 1969 SS 375/396 with F41 and 4.10 rear axle.  The spring chart says they are either HH or HJ front springs (do you add the weight of the L78 or is it already included in the chart?).  It is 4-speed without a console.  My car is original with less than 10,000 miles.

It also has the F44 special steering.  It has the normal AN manual steering box.  I'm not sure what else made the F44 steering vs the normal SS steering on the 396.  It is VERY hard to steer at low speeds.

Thanks

I am the original owner of a original unrestored 1969 SS 396/375 car with F41 suspension.  The rear springs (original) are 4 leaves with the paper tag BM (in silver).  The rear shocks (original) are UN from the Body Broadcast Sheet.  I can't see all the p/n but I think the last 3 digits on the rear shocks are 851.

I have an original owner no radio 69 Camaro 396/375.  There are no ground straps from valve covers to body and from body to subframe.  I ordered it without a radio so it is factory.

I know the Driveshaft Report is out but I want to share information on my original owner 1969 Camaro SS L78 with M22 transmission.  The car is
02D (1969).  The driveshaft is not phased and the markings are Orange and Blue.   The driveshaft has never been removed from car and it is very low mileage.  I'm sure of the color makings.  It uses straps at the differential.  Differential is positraction 4.10 ratio.

I also have another original owner 1969 Camaro SS L48 with M20 transmission.  The car is 11C (1968).  The driveshaft is phased and the markings are long gone.  It uses straps at the differential.  Original owner but high mileage.   Differential is positraction 3.70 ratio.

Big Iron or anyone else.  I found the mounting plate for the HD Parts Transistor Ignition for 1967 and 1968 z28 Camaros.  I can trace this if anyone would like.  I need a tracing and dimensions for the mounting plate for a 1969 ZL1 Camaro that uses a similiar mounting plate.

Thanks

I sent the message too soon.   The plate is not in the box it is supposed to be.  I'll continue to look but for now sorry I can't find it.

I have one of those plates and will trace it for you (along with dimensions).  I need the same on the 3954206 plate.  Will you trace it along with dimensions for me?

Thanks

Information on RPV on a 69 Camaro SS 396 with a build date 02D.  I am the original owner and have done all the maintenance since delivery.  The master cylinder US code 309 casting does not have a RPV in the rear brake circuit.  I have the master off and put a drill bit into the seat.  It went in 2 1/8 inches and finally hit the end of the hole.  Np restriction like a bad RPV that had a hole or deteriorated.  The car has the round pressure hold off valve on front brakes and the proportional valve on the subframe below the drivers door on the rear brakes.  I'm sure it never had a RPV.  The brakes worked fine.
