Restoration / Re: Re Tic Toc Tach parts

15 Years ago, I called a place called instrument services in Illinois.  I'm not sure if this is the same company... http://www.clocksandgauges.com/ .  The company logo is the same, but I don't know if the same people own the place.

I should add, it was to get a new shaft and knob.

Originality / Re: 68 327 RS air cleaner assy

Hey,

I don't think they offered a 4bc 327 in 1969.  the part number for the air cleaner you are looking for is, 6484220-A.  That part number was used in passenger, chevy II, chevelle and Camaro's.  The same part, excluding the heat riser valve was used in manual transmission cars in 68.  1969 Chevy's did not use the same part number.

Hi,

This auction, I am not affiliated with it in anyway, seems to have the correct air cleaner for a 327/275 hp engine.  The air cleaner lid is more raised.  I just can't tell if the snorkel is oriented the correct way.

This is the style that was on my late production 68, though I can't be certain it was the original..

Originality / Re: Dash Pad color?

I used something similar to Dupont 9480... I used a different brand of paint.  It was a good base color to get the dye made.  I think it's very close.  I think the equivalent Fisher Code is W30A3722.   My sun visors are the same as the headliner with slightly darker lace edging.  The pillar post molding is the same color as the headliner molding.  I'm fairly certain those are all original.  I should add, this is for a coupe.

Restoration / Re: Change 69 to 68 front disc brakes
« on: July 28, 2010, 07:00:13 PM »
Hi,

It all depends on a couple of things.  Did your car originally have disc brakes, if not, where did the setup you have now come from.

Besides the main caliper brackets you may need more.

For a 68 dual piston caliper, a special rotor is required.
1) There's the original two piece.
2)  Repro (one piece) has more of a bevel on the hub part, allowing caliper clearance.
3) there is also a Repro two piece, I have no experience with that.

You will also need new brake hoses, if 4 piston calipers don't come with them, you will need short little hard lines and brackets that attach them to the calipers.  Single piston style calipers have a different hose.

You may need to replace the brake hose frame brackets if they were replaced.

Spindles depend on what you really have on your car.

Hope this helps a little.

General Discussion / Re: Rear proportioning valve questions/pics
« on: October 30, 2009, 04:51:28 PM »
Hi,

On my 68 if you look at your first picture (john's) the side you have marked outlet, is my inlet (i.e. it is attached to the master cylinder).  The side you have marked inlet is my outlet (i.e. it is attached to the brake line going to the rear axle).  The big bolt's head is on the bottom parallel to the ground.

Examining John's picture I believe that is the case as well. What leads me to this conclusion...At the top of the picture it looks like the floor pan plug, the large bolts head must be parallel to the ground, and it must be on the left (drivers) side of the sub frame.

Anyway that's how mine is mounted, hope that helps

Originality / Re: Heat pipe fastener ID needed

Hi,

I owned an 1968 06c 327/275hp auto.  It still had the pipe and shield, never had a screw in it.  Now I don't know if it was replaced before my family owned it (early 80's) or if it was replaced when it had the engine stop lift cable installed (recall).  I do have another setup from a '68, I don't know the build information, it also has never been screwed together.

Restoration / Re: Corvette bronze paint

Most paint manufacturers have a customer support line for their resellers.  There are two ways to get a mix formula, bring in a sample for the scanner and let them create the formula locally, or call the manufacturers support line and get a mix solution.   Yo can...go to another PBE who is willing to contact PPG, go to a corvette site and ask if anyone has a mix formula for color code 992 (this is OO) using PPG, or change paint products.
You can also check out this site     www.tcpglobal.com, call them...if they have a paint formula, then PPG does.

Mix solutions are not always available.

If this picture comes out all right, it will give you an idea of how the studs and holes look.

Besides the studs that the plastic clips fit on, there are 4 holes.  Maybe about 1/8" diameter?  They are located on the "corner" of each side.  One hole on the quarter panel and one hole on the filler panel, per side.  The chrome has two (slide in) clips (with studs attached) per side.  The studs are slipped into the holes and nuts are screwed on from inside the trunk.

hi,

I replaced mine a couple years ago, cut out for the fuse box was incorrect. The original is best if it's not too damaged. I rescued my car from oblivion, so my pad was too far gone.

Hey,

Thanks for the answer.  By width I mean overall width of the entire shackle.  The service replacement ones and the early repros used longer bolts.  The bolt shoulders were also longer, that's what caused the width of the shackle (from end plate to end plate) to be slightly wider.  To compensate the bushings were slightly different.

I think it was actually the style shackle that was used on 1970 and up Camaros.  I'm just looking for a shackle kit so I can use the bolts with my original shackles and NOS bushings.

Thanks

Hey everybody,

The last time I bought a set of shackles, everyone was selling the wider service replacement parts with the longer shouldered bolts.  I've hunted around a couple of sites, but have not found any new information.  Does anyone know if the higher grade set sold by Rick's or Heartbeat city are the correct (original) width with the shorter shouldered bolts?  I actually just need the bolts, but a couple of years ago NPD only had the longer bolts that would fit a service replacement shackle.

thanks

Maintenance / Re: Rebuilt motor tuneup

Hi,

Didn't you have the same issue before the motor was rebuilt?  Are you sure you have the correct Harmonic Balancer and the correct timing tab?  When your builder put it togetehr did he check the marks to see they matched at TDC (most builders don't)?  Manually check TDC by putting it at TDC without looking at the timing marks, then look at the timing marks to see if they match.
