Originality / Chrome shifter ball on what 69 models
« on: December 20, 2016, 03:34:56 AM »
There's a thread over at TC concerning the stupid high prices of original chrome shifter balls like they only came on Z's or something.  According to the following, the chrome ball would have been on all 69 4 speed cars with a console. Is that right or am I reading in something that is not there?

It's been a while since I've been on the site and I realized after the fact  that I posted in the wrong forum. Please move.

02B...Second week of Feb. 1969.  I was removing/replacing war heads/guidance packages  on our Minuteman ICBM. Ellsworth AFB, S.D. The rest of the time, it was life, love, and the pursuit of happiness. Lots and lots as I recall. Met my wife of 43 years during that time also.

Did the ZL1 come with the muffler configuration as in the picture above? I thought all 69 Camaros came with the cross flow muffler or chambered exhaust mounted behind the diff. Then again, I'm not fluent in all things ZL1.  Thanks.

If it'not a factory aluminum manifold, just plug up the threaded heater fitting and turn down the pressure and use sand. I just did an old Holly manifold and it turned out great.

Maintenance / Re: LUK Clutch
« on: May 16, 2011, 01:05:08 AM »
I went with a LUK clutch & PP several years ago after 2 other napa units. The LUK has too much pedal pressure for my liking but it sure holds. As it turned out, my problem all along was a worn 40 year old TO bearing carriier. The TO was not hitting the fingers on the PP squarely causing unbearable chatter.  Went with a composite TO so no grease inside the bell housing.

I just love looking at the survivor cars.  We older guys have to apolgize for those generally younger folks that tend to be negative about your car. It's a shame that this car looks to have been sitting outside. Had it been protected, It could litterly be cleaned up and left as is. It is kind of a shame to restore something that is a true icon of the 60's muscle era and has been a time capsule for 35 years. Thanks for sharing your car with us. Be sure to keep us posted and we dont care what those clowns at the other site said. I hate to admit to alliance  to some of those guys but I'm a member of that site also.

The AIM has been  reproduced for many years. I bought one probably 18-20 years ago from Classic.  It has been photo copied so many times that some pages aren't very clear. There was a recent post over on TC that had a link to a PDF copy. We've  got some serious high speed internet at work and I should just print it because the pages looked clearer than my copy. Don't know about the Chassis Manual.

check the voltage at the light with a voltmeter. What does it read?

What should the voltage be? At idle? At 2K rpm?   I think that a lot of us have the same problem and I have up graded my lights with the best Sylvanias that I could buy.

Originality / Re: XT wheels with trim rings

There's a 69 RS/SS L78 2 owner car that belongs to a member of our club that is a factory XT car with trim rings and it looks fantastic. It's  Hugger Orange w/ black vinyl top. Mine is the same color combo and wheels but a 350. I think that your car would look great and dont paint the wheels silver or black. Keep it the factory look.
