General Discussion / Re: Power Window Motor Rebuild
« on: March 27, 2024, 12:39:05 AM »
The doors have never been into. Still has the original paper barrier (black one side and cardboard color on the other) and 3” black tape attached to the inside of door. Rollers definitely need to be replaced and everything cleaned and lubed properly, but the motors and possibly the switches need help.
I’ve called all local shops including generator exchange but no luck here in Utah. Guess I’ll tear into the motors and see what I find.  8)

Schlepcar.
I have both door motors out and tested. Both motors go up without issue, both very slow and weak coming to the down position. I have not removed the quarter window motors yet but they move very slow both directions in the car. I do not want to go the repop route, but the one vendor that I have contacted wants $225 per motor to go through them.
Any other vendor or advise is helpful.

In search of a vendor that can rebuild original power window motors. D&M Resto is the only place I have found and looking for another option.
If anyone has gone aftermarket, is their a consensus on best option?

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / A/C drier bracket color

Easy question for some of you guys. I sourced an original pair of drier brackets for my 68. Was the original color black, zinc, or other?

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / RS Grill and Doors
« on: October 28, 2023, 02:58:48 AM »
Hello all!

So my 68 is a 12B car which would have had the chrome accents on the grill and doors right?
I may be replacing these items along with door bezels and both valances.
My question is, has anyone utilized the repop grill and doors with chrome accents? If so, we’re they any good? Or junk? What about bezels and valance? And what vendor did you purchase from?
I would consider NOS if they could be found.

Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen to your comment.   8)

All cleaned up and painted clear.
Any source on a YE sticker? You can find many codes at the usual suspects but not finding the YE.

cook_dw. Definitely going to preserve them. Already took the to a local spring manufacture and had them tested. They are still good springs. I’ve blasted them to remove rust. Paint is next step. Thinking going with a low sheen black. Any other suggestions for original color?

I was extremely pleased to find not one , but both original coil spring tags still attached upon removal. Even more pleased when I looked up the YE code!
YE code springs were used on 1968 L34 cars that had F-41 special suspension. I am finding many things on this car that point to original equipment and now this find gives even more credibility to this car being an original L34 survivor.
I just wanted to share this with everyone as it is so cool to see this kind of clue from
the past. (Hopefully the photos will attach).
I would also like to hear from anyone that has further information on exactly what the F-41 option included or any other information.

General Discussion / RS. NOS vs Repop
« on: January 28, 2023, 03:16:54 PM »
Hey everyone.
I need to replace my vacuum relay switch and actuators on my 68.
There are NOS parts available for a $$$$. The Repops are obviously much less. The NOS would cool, but not like the entire system would be original as hoses need to be replaced as well.

I need to know who has used the Repop option on the above parts and what kind of luck they have had with them and also, which vendor purchased from. Same with hose kit. If these parts are junk, maybe the $$$$ up front for NOS would pay off in the long run vs. replacing repops yearly??
Relay and both actuators = $1250 NOS/$215 Repop.

Thanks.

General Discussion / 396 L34 Cam
« on: September 09, 2022, 02:08:34 AM »
So looks like I will be replacing the cam due to a flat exh lobe and possibly more depending on how things look once cleaned properly.
Keeping this engine stock and wondering where to go for a new cam. I have read that there have been some manufacturing issues and "soft material" problems.
What have you had success with? Is Crane still a good choice?

Thanks.
Craig.

Maintenance / Re: 68 Brake issue. Input needed.
« on: June 20, 2022, 01:14:58 AM »
ISSUE RESOLVED
I replaced both wheel cylinder's at the recommendation of a very helpful CGR member. I also replaced the metering valve again just because it was suspect.
Today, upon completion and bleeding, I have brakes!
Personally, I think it was the wheel cylinders. They seemed to have more travel than the old ones and generally work better. Could probably put all my old parts back on and return the new ones... but I won't. Will try my hand at rebuilding some valves this winter when time allows. Overall, this was a great learning experience with my new car.
Thanks for all of the input from everyone.
Big shout out to my new Camaro buddy.  :)

Craig.
