According to CRG, your 1967 Camaro was built with a 327 engine:

Interesting information on the J65 drum brake option.  How is the braking performance on your Camaro? - Mark

JonZ's article on painting describes that primer was hand-sprayed on the entire body:

http://www.camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml#fisherpaint

I remember when the Camaros and Firebirds came out of the paint oven after being primed as they were located on the second floor of the Van Nuys Plant and during the summer, it was hot!

I read JohnZ's write-up on how Fisher Body painted vehicles and he noted that cars requiring major repairs would be routed to be repainted:

"If a unit required a major paint repair that couldn't be accommodated in the normal in-line cycle time, it could be diverted off the main line at the end of the repair booth into a parallel loop that ran in the opposite direction and fed the unit back into the main line ahead of the main repair booth; the re-run loop could accommodate about 20 units."

I started working at the Van Nuys Plant in 1978 and never heard of a car being repainted another color, but who knows what happened when they began to build the 1967 Camaro.  My 1979 Trans Am that was built at Van Nuys is painted Solar Gold and I can see gold paint on the under body that isn't covered by undercoating.

I have read that Corvette owners have had good experiences using the water pump rebuilding service below:

https://chevycool.com/

I like that the service posts the cost to rebuild your water pump on their website.  Good luck! - Mark

According to CRG, the water pump used on the 1969 302 engine was the same as used on other small blocks for 1969:

A light gray/brown electrode is usual for a spark plug that is functioning properly on older high performance engines and your 1969 Z28 plug looks good to me.

General Discussion / Re: 1969 R89 side post battery
« on: March 10, 2024, 04:42:39 PM »
The Braille batteries are great, but unless you buy the lithium battery which has a five year warranty, the other batteries I believe only have a three year warranty.  I have three cars that I don't drive much and have found that even though I maintain the batteries, they don't seem to last as long as they used to and most manufacturers only have a three year warranty.

The previous owner of my Mustang had the Marti Report and Ford Invoice for the car, and it was originally ordered by someone who had the dealer install a trunk-mounted battery.  4.30 axle, Detroit Locker, Shaker Hood and manual steering was great for going down the 1/4 mile, but few were ordered as who would want such a Mustang for driving on the street.  Only my brother has taken the BOSS 302 for a spin and he said it was the worst driving car he has ever driven!  I think the only person who would buy my Mustang is someone who could drive it away or bring a trailer.

I have a 1976 thru 1981 Pontiac Chassis and Body Parts Catalog that I bought from a local shop that was closing years ago, along with the shop manual for the 1978 Firebird, with the supplement for 1979.

Maintenance / Re: Adjust Steering
« on: February 29, 2024, 01:15:43 AM »
A Saginaw manual steering box is also used in early Mustangs and in the Hot Rod article below, it is noted that you can adjust the box by loosening the nut on the box and tightening the bolt (sector screw) until it is snug as R68GTO described:

https://www.motortrend.com/features/steerage-class-september-1987-982-1300-86-1/

If there is no change as a result of the adjustment, it is recommended that the steering box needs to be rebuilt.

Section 9-37 of the GM chassis manual says it is not recommended to try and adjust the steering box when it is installed in the vehicle:

JohnZ made a prior comment about adjusting the steering box:
