General Discussion / LeMans blue the same as Olds Viking blue?
« on: December 25, 2023, 09:11:09 PM »
Guys,
Need a bit of advice here on some colors:
Is Chevy's LeMans  blue the same as say, Mulsanne Blue, or Oldsmobile Viking Blue?
Thanks!

Not uncommon for a missed/not in sequenced stamp or a missing # or letter. Seen this on many cars, including brand X also. Remember, these were hand stamped, not like todays robotic/ bar coding systems.

Doing neutral drops at 7,000 would be death to any automatic trans, including the rear end and half shafts. The 'story' is more like an urban legend. Unless there are some facts to back it up, I don't buy it...sorry.

Concerning the HF power tools, don't waste your time. Absolute junk. Made in China...you get what you pay for. The floor jacks, its hit or miss. 'I' would not trust them...just me.

It can be fixed no prob. This will require an expert bodyman. I have done this type of work before. Patience is the key here. And yes, my name is also Scott. Just not the one referenced in the last posting.

Guys,
Scored a nice set of NOS Olds hubcaps that I intend to use on the 442. Here is a picture of one that I set on a Rally Wheel (no, not gonna use those on the 442!)

That's just wrong :(

I have to agree.....
AMEN

The same can be said for all of the small block Chevys in Ford cars. That said, before the hate mail arrives, I have to agree its a neat conversion. Guys, its called 'Hot-Rodding'. I like people that think outside the box...

Seeing how this is a wheel's thread, I'll ask my question here. I have a 69 SS with ARW 15x7" on all 4 225-60 BS of 4.25 on front, and 245-60 BS 3.75 on back. I want to purchase Rally wheels and was wondering if a 235-60-15 will fit on all 4 without any fitment issues.? Need BS measurements also.

All I can add to that is: on 'A' bodies, 4.25, and 5" backspace seems to work fine. Again, this is on A bodies. I suggest, do your research, ask around what will work on a 'F' body.

Is the VIN in a 67 door jamb considered hidden?? :)

No they just had not invented the "Dash VIN" yet, Came in the Next year improvements 68 Baby!

Actually, 1968 Federal law required it on all makes and models sold in the US. One of the 'requirements' stated the VIN had to be on the top of the dash visible from the outside. From what I have heard, all makes/brands have hidden VINS on the body/frames as well.

Decided to go with the standard steel wheels in 15X8. I really dig the 'sleeper' and or COPO look. Here is a perfect example of a 1968 442 with the same Sapphire Blue/black top as mine.

They're nice. I like the Magnums. They look great on every car I've seen them on; kind of like TT's. Have you checked out the Olds Super Stock ll wheels?

Decided to go 15's instead of 17's?

Yes, 15X8 (Magnum's) on the 442. The look is classic, correct and who can go wrong. They just look great! I'm actually leaning towards the re-pro alum versions.

Yesterday, at our local cars and coffee, I saw a set of the Hurst wheels on a '69 Camaro. Nah, not for me. I believe they look best on a GTO. So, I'm going to secure a nice set of re-pro 15X8 inch Magnums (Super Stock) wheels for the 442 instead.

Guys,
Decided to stay with the traditional 15 inch wheels for the new A body project. Here are the neat Hurst wheels I intend to use on the 442.
