I did not do the chromate conversion. I do have the clear/blue chromate concentrate. I thought it would make it look to shinny like my alternator fan. I was under the impression it should be more dull like cadmium plating so that why I choose not to do the blue chromate. I figured with the white zinc rust it would look more correct after it aged but I'm second guessing my decision.  Should it be more of a bright zinc like my alt fan or a dull cadmium? I can make it just like my alt fan if that is correct.

When you guys restore your power brake booster tubes and fittings what finish did you use? I blasted and zinc plated mine with my Caswell kit. I decided not to do the chromate conversion coating because I thought it looked correct. Only draw back is it has no protection and the typical zinc white rust is setting in. The haze you see on the bracket is the white rust and it polishes away very easy. What is considered the correct finish? Please take a look at the pic below and give me your opinion. Any and all feed back is greatly appreciated.

Understood. I was asking about both. Can you confirm what oil galley plugs? Square? I was told square but can't find any pictures or reference material.

Here is a better picture of the coolant drain plugs. They are NOS.  69Z28-RS are you saying the oil plugs are hex also like the coolant plugs?

The plugs in the picture are steel and are zinc plated. The picture is poor and makes them look brass.

Quick question,
What are the correct oil galley plugs and coolant drain plugs in the block? Does any one have pictures of the correct oil galley and coolant block drain plugs?
Thank you

Do a cylinder leak down test to make sure you don't have any cylinder charge issues. You may need to check the valve clearance if you have solid lifters. It might be a good idea to take it to someone who is proficient with an ignition scope.  A good tech with a scope should be able to get to the bottom of it quickly.

I was asking if it was a real L89 car because of the board displayed with the vehicle when it is being shown. The authenticity of it being a 396 car was not much of a concern because Jerry said it was a SS 396.

The MT stamp caught my eye on this one. Engine was built before it was cast if the info in the ad is correct on the casting date. :o
