Restoration / Re: Need Ball Joint Rivets Installed
« on: May 11, 2021, 03:51:01 PM »
I tried to "TOOL" up to perform this task and failed -
Challenges, Sourcing quality correctly size starting stock rivets, Correct Tooling for "Backing bar" & "Buck"  driver for proper setting of rivets, Making a stable set up to crush aka set rivets,  was a big pain for just 6 pc of hardware, I went with ZIP products threaded rivets the Vette houses sell and called it good.

JIM
I did mine with a hydraulic press and some scrap steel for backing up the rivit,,,easy to do

You should be able to find a suitable replacement at any GOOD auto parts store,,,,nothing fancy or proprietary about a 10 1/2 clutch

I have drag raced a ton of F bodies with mono leaf springs, what I do know for fact, is that if it breaks, it wont be there, they break, or actually crack, in the axle perch area, specifically where the rubber cushion ends at the spring itself. What happens is water will sit and rust a line across the spring perpendicular, causing a stress riser. Looking at the shape of the spring looks like there may be a ride height problem ?
