The car is a real z28 like we suspected but couldn't prove because of the missing cowl tag. Please help!!!

I assume you are talking about the trim tag? '69s are 124 as well if so.

Nothing in a first gens VIN will tell you which engine the car originally had other than if it was a L6, or V8 car. Those online VIN decoders are generated just to get peoples hopes up it seems.

That tag is obviously bogus. Even I can tell that, and I'm no expert.

Congratulations starting on the car! Looks like to be a solid start. Looks like it is keeping good company in the last picture.

IIRC, Jerrys book states the dust shields were silver dichromate plated, and the caliper mounts were gold dichromate plated. Steering knuckles, spindles, and tie rod ends were bare cast iron.
