Wayne, that's a pretty cool shot. I drove mine down. I've been working on restoring it back to as close to original as I can get it. Of course when I got there on Thurs. my new master cylinder failed and I had to have it replaced .Your right Jerry I didn't see too many original type cars this year.
I did mananage to win a little trophy though this year :)  So there's still some support for the orig. cars.

Originality / Re: Spatter Paint
« on: April 13, 2007, 11:27:18 AM »
The color on the right is thr "Gray/White" spatter paint that I understand was used until 1966, then GM changed to the "Black/Aqua"

I am going to redo the spatter paint in the trunk of my '69
I found this new product which claims to reproduce the exact orig color.
Its the Black / Aqua color on the right in my photo and I added a shot of a trunk done with it.It's darker that what is currently the color of my trunk.
Does this look like the correct factory color ?
Thanks again for the expert advice.

Colvin's Chevy by the numbers book shows the Engine casting number  application as a 1969 (mid year) 427 for Passenger,Corvette,Chevelle and Camaro. Also 1970 and 1971 454 applications.
The heads as 1969 - Passenger/427, Chevelle/396, Camaro/396, Corvette/427, and Chevy II / 396.
The casting date and pad stamp will help narrow it down.

I see listed in the AIM on the option index sheet A2, under Bumpers & Miscellaneous UPC 14
something called -
*V48   ENGINE COOLANT - Maximum Protection
Would that be the imfamous sticker ?
I have a friend who swears he has seen it on two survivor cars at the nationals.

So that makes the intake about 2 weeks to late for my engine, correct ?

Decoding/Numbers / Intake casting number

Here some shots of my engine pad and the casting date of my intake manifold. My question is did the skip the letter "I" on intake manifold castings ?
If so the date is perfect. If not my manifold was cast after my engine was built. My car is an 11D '68 build and has the large type trim tag. I have seen 11D both large and small type tags, so guess that means my car was a later 11D build.

In my copy of the '69 AIM it only shows the "tune up sticker"
It is shown on UPC 0 , sheet B1 which has page #11 penciled in on my copy.
There is no mention anywhere in my AIM of a coolant sticker.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: finding original owner
« on: January 11, 2007, 09:06:54 PM »
I did a search with Virginia and Kentucky DMV's for my car. About all I got from from VA. was that it was titled previously in Ky.
I sent a form to Ky. and a check for $2.50 and 10 days latter I got a letter from Ky. with 20 pages of info on registrations back to 1980.
I was able to talk to the third owner who had it for twelve years bought it from his brother in law who was the second owner. He aslo told me who the orig. selling dealer was.
Also spoke to the guy who did the restoration back in 2001, he was able to give me a lot of info on the car.
I was just lucky it was in Ky. for so long. From what I understand most states will not give you much info.
