General Discussion / Re: 63K mile '69 Sport Coupe
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:46:17 PM »
Just kidding.... :)  Here's the scoop:

Bought the car in 2005 from a gentleman in Northridge. My intent was to build it for my oldest daughter (now 15) but she has become a real Corvette C3 nut.  Since we have a '70 LT-1  here waiting to be restored she's opted for it.  Now the '69 307 car needs to find a new home.  I've kept it out doors here in So Cal since but under a very good cover:

He was the original owner and had only a copy of the sales contract from Bliss & Paden in LA.  Purchase price was $3372.  According to the original owner, there was a brown RS right next to this car on the lot.  His wife really wanted it but it was $500 more and he didn't want to spend the cash. So he bought this car and paid the dealer to install a vinyl roof to make his wife happy.   Here is the trim tag:

As you can see, not brown nor a vinyl top when it left Norwood.

I know team Camaro has a classifieds area, I am not sure why CRG doesn't.
If there is a problem, I think you could safely post pictures of it on CRG and state all the facts about the car and then say you are thinking of selling it, and you would probably get a few PM s of members who would be interested. Just an idea
I'd only be guessing as to why no for sale section here...so I won't offer a guess ;-)

I wanted to start here because there are more people on the CRG that appreciate even the plain janes than do so over at Team Camaro.  Like I said, I was hoping for someone to not turn it into the next Car Craft cover car or another drag car...this seems lie the right place just didn't want to step on any toes since selling stuff has never really been a part of this site.

Your suggestion is not bad but, since I've decided to sell the car, I do want to generate traffic to the post.  Was considering putting for sale in the subject heading.

General Discussion / 63K mile '69 Sport Coupe
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:55:55 PM »
I have a '69 sport coupe that I purchased from the original owner.  It shows 63K on the clock and, although it's been repainted, the interior would tend to support that as the actual mileage.  It is a 307, AT (TH350), PDB, AC car with standard interior.  It is very complete and needs minor body work and paint as well as an engine rebuild (rings).  I bring all of this up as I am going to sell it (I need to thin the herd a little).  I would like to see someone up here give it the TLC and respect it deserves as opposed to selling  it into a life of pro-touring on Ebay.

Are there any objections to me posting it up here with photos and a price to see if someone in the CRG community will take it?

LMK...I'm going out to snap some photos now.

General Discussion / Drum Brake differences between F-bodies
« on: February 17, 2012, 05:54:27 PM »
In a Firebird related discussion it has been suggested that Camaro and Firebird used different spindles and/or hubs to give Firebird a wider track.  I had always been under the impression that the two cars shared components in that area.  Are there any known differences between the two cars with regard to drum brake spindles and hubs?  I have some Firebird parts (hubs from a '67, a hub from '68 and two spindles from '68) and I do have a fully assembled '69 Camaro drum equipped sub-frame (just not in a position to disassemble right now) if we want to do some comparisons.

Originality / '69 shift knob

How does one tell the difference between an OE shift knob for MT with console (chrome knob) and a repop?

Originality / Re: YH wheels

Probably swapped with another Z to get new tires (I just got mags and you can have the old wheels and tires for $50, just give me your rims....).

Better than that - I figured it out...they guy I bought my car form in '84 had a second '69 badged as a Z/28 (he said it was but who knows).  It was his P & J.  Along with a brand new shiny black paint job it rocked a set of Center Line rims. Don't know the build date of the car but would bet that it was the original owner of those K19 8 4 YH  rims.

General Discussion / Re: Hurst Handle Shifter Bracket

I've never seen one solo before either - you can also try Pete Serio at Precision Pontiac ( http://www.precisionpontiac.net/ ) - He "wrote the book" on Hurst shifters ;D

Those were dealer installed accessories (P/N 986068) and were also used on the early 67's without retractors if I remember correctly. Kurt can verify that, but you can see them in the top right corner of the below picture.

Ed

Knew I'd seen them in literature before but couldn't find the reference - thanks.

So the only possible OE use (on Camaro) would be early '67s - if Kurt verifies.

Here's a photo of OER's repop:

Just trying to figure out original application and path way for these to end up on a car.

See the "retractor" mounted on the belts in these photos (not 1st gen but I've seen them installed on 1st gens):

Are these after market or GM items?  If GM, Were they strictly over the counter pieces or could a car be delivered with such devices.  I cannot seem to recall where I have run into these before but I'm thinking it was on shoulder belts.

Any info appreciated

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Muncie 4 speed Trans
« on: February 16, 2011, 06:30:15 PM »
As I recall, Goats didn't use the 584 tailhousing with the speedo on the passenger side - they used the 429 housing with the speedo on the driver's side; not sure when they changed to the 584 housing.

Were still driver's side in '69 (my 50K original is so)

Decoding/Numbers / 8.2" posi casting numbers
« on: February 03, 2011, 06:51:34 AM »
Can anyone confirm that ED 32267 is indeed an 8.2" series two posi unit?  Thanks

The number following the "CE" on the stamp is the calendar year the short block (or fitted block) was manufactured, not the model year car it's intended for. "CE" replacements were ordered by part number from an application chart so the innards matched those of the failed engine; that part number only appeared on the shipping paperwork and on the crate it was shipped in. The "CE" stamping on the block pad only indicated year of manufacture and which engine plant built it.
OK - this was my understanding of the stamping.

If we go back to my example and add more detail:  Say the '69 in question had a high compression engine (say an L78 with 11:1) and it received a warranty replacement engine in 1973 built in '73 (CE3xxxxxxx) when engine plants were no longer building high compression motors would that motor still be spec'd as per OE?  Would the engine plant have access to the pistons and cam for the L-78 at that point in time?

How was the PN attached to the CE block?  Paper tag?  And did GM build a set number of CE blocks each year and then inventory them?

For the record I am asking all of this not to fake something up but out of genuine curiosity.  I have a 05A built X77 Z/28 carrying  a CE block stamped CED35918  (I can't find where I wrote the cast date and the car is not here at the moment) but I have friends with cars like Rodent's where the CE block has a year date newer than the model year car.
