Decoding/Numbers / Starter numbers
« on: February 20, 2008, 03:43:55 AM »
I have been researching a starter for a 69 SS 350. I have come across various sources that state different numbers. Does anyone know of a definitive list of the specific applicatons for each starter?
Thanks Chris

Do you recommend not using hardened valve seats on all motors? I have a 350/300 and it was given hardened seats years ago when CA switched to unleaded gas. Is it difficult to switch the seats back?
Thanks for your time

Restoration / Factory or Dealer
« on: January 24, 2008, 02:20:21 AM »
I am currently restoring a 69 SS. I have several options that I assume are dealer installed. I am thinking of entering the car for judging when restoration is complete. Should I leave off the dealer options or re-install them?

The list of options that I can come up with are: The single stripe ( which will be restored ); Under dash 8track ( was located to the left of the gauge cluster under the radio); three 6x9 speakers across the rear (it has an AM/FM - not stereo radio); and a full body undercoating.
Thank you for your comments

Restoration / restoration sheetmetal
« on: January 24, 2008, 02:10:01 AM »
What are the differences between imported vs. domestic sheetmetal panels?
For judging would it be better to repair damaged original sheetmetal or replace it?

well since you wont EVER sell it.....................Look up Baldwin Motion out of New York. Long Island NY. i beleive. Any way you will see that stripe on most Baldwin motion chevelles , corvettes, and camaro's. Good luck !
I have no badging or other indications that would lead me to believe I am the owner of a Motion Camaro. It does not have anything special. It is a rather plain L48 with the single stripe ( or so I believe.)

Tom-
The original owner told me it was the only unit at the showroom with the single stripe. There were several other SS's that were on the lot that had the double stripes.  The dealership was Ted Green Chevrolet on Hawthorne. I believe they are currently known as Martin Chevrolet.

Do you want to sell it???? and does it have all the original equiptment???
No I will not sell it. I was my first car. The wife of the original owner and I are close and she is verry happy to see that I am in the process of returning the car to a numbers matching original. I had to stop driving it because it is modified and has a non CARB approved parts and was going to need to get it smogged. I have all of the original parts with the exception of a starter.

The car was purchased from a dealership in Torrance, California. It was the showroom display model. The dealership is no longer in business.

Originality / Single stripe on 69 SS
« on: January 18, 2008, 04:38:02 AM »
I have a 69 SS 350 with a single white stripe down the hood and rear deck. I know this was original as I have spoken with the original owner. I am trying to find any other owners that have seen similar paint scheme. Does anybody know if this car came from the factory with the stripe?
