General Discussion / Re: Found Camaros, Not For Sale...
« on: May 03, 2007, 04:39:04 AM »
I know of a matching numbers 67 RS/SS 350 setting in a guys backyard for the last 17 years that he wont sell. It is slowly rusting into the ground, when I first seen it you could still tell it was butternut yellow. Now it has faded to the point that it looks more white, at least where the surface rust has not covered it. Its sad I know of 2 dozen 67-73 Camaros with 8 or 9 of them being first gen cars setting that the owners wont sell.

Your welcome sorry I cant be more help the VIN only tells what plant it came from N=Norwood and that it had a V8 from the factory. As for the block and heads I don't have a book that will tell me what the casting numbers go to. If you look on the block behind the altanatior (at least on small blocks) there is a pad that should have a stamp on it (something like T02VMC) followed by the last part of the VIN number to the car it was orgionaly installed in. If you can get those I can help a little more by telling you what kind of car/truck the engine was orgionaly installed in.

If you look for the 67-68 Camaro reference book by John R. Hooper ISBN0-9633802-4-9 or if you can pick up the dealers brochure it will show the color of the interior. It is one of those interiors that unless someone is going back to stock people change out (most people don't like green interiors). That is one thing I think that would make it kind of neat to have becasue you wont see many of them. The seafrost I think is a good looking color when nice a shinney. My 67 is butternut with a black deluxe which everyone likes but you will find a lot of them. I get more comments on the color of my 71 SS350 which is white with black vinyl top and a White/Black houndstooth looking deluxe interior becasue you don't see them as often. Either way good luck

I don't have a photo but I used to have a friend who had a 68  with that combination and it actually looked really good. The Ivory gold is kind of a greenish color it's not really a white or gold color.

My 67  (the only first gen I have now) is in pieces, my 70 SS 396 is waiting its turn, my 71 SS350 is getting all the attention to try and get it done, and the only one that is drivable is my matching numbers all orgional 80 Z/28 which gets driven weekly durning nice weather.

Is it possiable that a Camaro might have VIN N300001 and a Firebird L300001? Being both cars were built at the same plant? Or did Pontiac have a different number sequence?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: VIN to add to the data base

The code on the block looks like V0902MK but it's hard to read it has what looks to be the last part of the VIN number under it but its very faint. The casting number of 3892657 is on the block and I have not pulled the valve covers to check the heads. I tried to get numbers off the trans but did not see them, and I'm not sure if the rearend is orgional or not. It is a 10 bolt but has multi leaf springs and I have not been under it yet to check the codes. I will try to sometime this week of next weekend and post them.

Decoding/Numbers / VIN to add to the data base
« on: March 17, 2007, 08:54:05 PM »
  Kurt,

Here is a VIN and trim tag to add to the data base. If it is already in there will you let me know? And maybe who listed it? If I can get any history on the car that would be great.
                                    VIN   7L104942

                               Trim Tag         09D          A374
                                                  67-12637  LOS 1679
                                                   765           Y-2
                                                   E      2 LGR    3SL
                                                    5 BY

One thing if you can answer it also is the A374 on the top of the trim tag. That has something to do with the production run right? How is that decoded?
Thanks

General Discussion / Re: Vinyl or Not?
« on: March 17, 2007, 08:46:14 PM »
Back in the day I hated them, but I was into hotrodding them at that time. Now as time has gone on I have gotten sick of seeing all the aftermarket chrome, intakes, carbs, wheels, seats, paint and other stuff people do to them. I like them to look the way they came from the factory which is why my butternut yellow 67 RS will have the black vinyl top it came with. The 327 will we solid chevy orange and the rest of the car will be as stock as I can make it.

Thanks for the link Kurt and the help from the rest of you.  As soon as I get the car home I will give you the trim tag info Kurt so that you can add it to the data base.

Decoding/Numbers / Hidden VIN
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:27:12 AM »
  Hi,

I have a question about hidden VIN's on first generation Camaros. Other then under the heater core box is there anywhere else the VIN is at on the body or frame? What happend is I have bought a 67 RS 4spd car that the previous owner started trying to restore, he removed the VIN tag from the door jam to prime the body and has lost it. I checked the title aginst the partial VIN under the heater box and it matches the ending of the VIN on the title, but I live in a different state then where I bought the car so to get a title in my state I have to have the VIN inspected. If it is somewhere other then under the heater box I might start putting the car back together before I have it inspected, if not I need to get a law enforcement officer over to sign off on an affadaved to say it matches.  Also the sub-frame on the car was changed to a 68 sub-frame because of damage in the past.

Can someone help?

Thanks in advance
