Title: 69 Horn GM Numbers

I know you guys are wealth of info and experience on numbers. I've got a lead on some NOS GM horns. Ad says: "A" & "F" tone horns with original locking nuts - Gm Part#'s 1892163 & 1892164. Are those correct for 1969 Camaro? (I'm assuming most 69 GM models...)

Nope. Those are the generic GM replacement horns you can get from any of the Vendors, or GMPARTSDIRECT (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/) for around $20.00 each plus shipping. You should be looking for part numbers 9000290 (high note) and 9000289 (low note).

You can also get these from a number of Camaro vendors as correct reproductions (like Camaro Central's STE-637 set). Brackets are correct, and welded like the originals, plus they look dead on. Probably beats trying to find a used set and having them rebuilt (like I'm having to do with my originals).

I was disappointed with the repros. While they may have the correct brackets and they are welded like the originals, the passenger side is locked in at the wrong angle. I sent my originals out to be restored and I'm using the STE-637 set as the backup.

I threw on a pair of GM service replacement horns while she was in the body shop in 83 and never threw them out and put the originals back in until this spring. So they had a hard life sitting 20 years in a soggy cardboard box.

Jerry M restored my original set of non working horns 8 years ago. They look great and work perfectly and they have the correct numbers and brackets........Retsore those originals if you can its well worth it and watch out for  the repros that say "Made in France"

I found a set of correctly dated originals on Ebay that were in rough shape and not working. I sent them to Gary at www.classiccarhorns.com and when I got them back I was floored at how great they looked, worked, & sounded. If you have your originals, send them to him, you will not be disappointed. Perfectly restored originals are worth far more than repops, IMHO.

I had a friend tell me to soak the inside with wd-40 and tap them with a rubber mallet. Sounded crazy but it worked
