Title: Placke Chevrolet
Post by: DavidS on August 17, 2012, 06:25:57 PM
My 1969 Z/28 was bought out of Placke Chevrolet in St. Louis MO.

Today, I recieved a picture of the building and of Donald Placke.   ;D  ;D  ;D

The picture was titled "Mr. Hartman with Don Placke at Placke Chevrolet Company.  Negative by Edward Goldberger, 1954".

I believe that Don Placke is still alive in St. Louis MO and that as of August 2012, he is 86 years old.

If this is correct, he was 28 when the picture was taken 58 years ago.

That means that Donald C Placke is the gentleman in the dark suit.

I believe that 1968RSZ28's car also came from Placke Chevrolet.

I thought the Corvair didn't come out until 1960.

David very nice vintage pic, in this day and age you would not see many 28 year olds own their own dealership.

Cool Old picture! Thanks for sharing.......
Yep, Corvair came out in the 1960 model year. My Dad sold cars in Laurel, MD's "Mid City Chevrolet/Olds" back in the day and I remember him giving me the sales pitch on why they were such a great car. Guess he was practicing :)
Right down the street was the NEW Laurel Shopping Center which opened in 58 (somewhere close to that) and had Elvis and Jimmy Dean perform for it's opening. Same place Gov. Wallace was shot many years later.
Oh the memories stored that come out at times.
