Title: Strange Block Casting Number
Post by: chilipepper13 on July 22, 2012, 02:24:59 PM
Hi there

Finally assembled all the numbers of my engine today while taking pictures of everything. Something about the engine block casting got me puzzled. My car is a very early 1969 SS/RS 350 (engine build date on the pad stamp indicates Sept 25) and it has the block casting number 3927185 GM 5 T. According to an article on CRG a 1969 350ci block should start with 393 though  ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Ed

3927184 isn't the block casting number. That's the intake manifold casting number.

The picture you show is the casting number of the Tonawanda cast intake manifold, which is correct for Tonawanda built 350 4 barrel engines.  The block casting number is on the block surface between the bellhousing and intake manifold (behind your coil and distributor).
