Title: Radius rod color
Post by: Mike S on July 12, 2012, 02:13:20 AM
I searched the CRG archives and didn't find the answer. What is the color of the 67 square radius rod?
The MacNeish Book specs state 30-60% black but I have seen real Chevy NOS ones that look gray and even the CRF article shows gray examples as well.
I painted mine black in the 80's and don't remember seeing any colors then as it had surface rust.
Looking at my 67 L35 with the round bar, that appears to have some traces of black paint still.

Thank you,
Mike

No takers? Surely someone out there must have seen an original square radius rod finish or own one possibly?

Thanks!
Mike

The picture in Jerry's book (Definitive 67-68 Z's) on page 81 looks un-restored and black. Here is another I found on the internet.

Hi MO,

That picture looks like a square radius bar on a round radius bar bracket.  ???
But, I'm inclined to say black too. When I restored my car in the 80's I was anal (still am  :D ) about maintaining the correct finish so the bar was painted black. My other survivor '67 with the round rod has signs of black paint too so I guess the same manufacturer made that (square and round) and so used the same color.

Thanks!
Mike

Hi Mike,

I agree, square bar without the snubber bracket or extra hole for it. I haven't found any pictures of unrestored round bars yet so I can't say for sure they were all black, but I would think they would be. I'll post if I run across some. Good luck!
