Title: Restoring / polishing trim rings
Post by: lynnbilodeau on July 10, 2012, 02:59:43 AM
I have six original trim rings for my 69 Z/28.  Very slight dings and scratches.  Couple of questions:

Were these "flash chromed" originally?

If not flash chromed, where can I send them to get the small dings out and for polishing?

Bruce Dell at Dell Metal Polishing in Ohio. Great guy and does fantastic work. Restoration shop who uses him exclusively told me about him and he did all of our stainless. What a craftsman!

Yes, they were; they were flash-chromed (which is clear) after polishing to protect the stainless surface from oxidation.

Wow you learn something new everyday... were all polished stainless trim pieces flash-chromed? (windshield trim etc)

I know the windshield and back window was so I'm inclined to say yes all was flash chromed. Cut thru the flashing on some of mine when I was polishing it. Yellow hue was left if you look real close and know what to look for. I got lucky and my interior guy had a piece he let me have to replace the damaged piece.
