Title: Looking for another decal project to consider
Post by: Don_Lightfoot on July 09, 2012, 11:02:52 PM
We would like to take a look at another decal project where the repro is not accurate or one that is not being made at present.

I have had some requests for the 68 Z/28 Emission Decal, but do not have a high resolution, quality picture to work with.  If anybody could provide such a picture we could take a look at doing it.

I have also had requests for the 69 Camaro Jacking Instructions Decal.  I have no idea how many different ones were made for that year, but I would assume several.  We may consider looking at the most popular one (EG - most widely used) if somebody can provide a picture.

Thanks.

I do not have one but how about a correct tire pressure decal for a 69?

I second that, how about a correct tire decal for the 69 Z

We have done three Tire Pressure decals for 69 Chevelles - BC, DC & DL.  I wouldn't think any of those would be the same for the Camaro.

We could consider looking at the more popular ones - Z/28 & SS for example - if somebody can provide quality pictures of originals.

How about doing the 69 396 /375 hp Emission Decal.

OR the 'late year'  '69 small block emissions decal??   As I understand it, the one you just finished was replaced later in the year, thus is not appropriate for my September Z28?

That one is done, go to my website (http://www.angelfire.com/rock/69ss/index.html) for the information.

Don, I have not checked but maybe some wise members here will know about the coil are rear spring tags being correct or not. Thought I have read that the repros are not correct but not 100% sure or do I have anything to compare to. Know Don you re-did those for Chevelles if I remember correctly and those are used by a lot of people and would think they would be easy compared to other decals.
Everyone, how are the repro coil spring and leaf spring decals to originals?
Thanks Don! Received the decals ordered yesterday......

I've forgotten Don, do you have the correct 68 Z28 Emission decal?

No I don't Chick.  That is one we would consider looking at as mentioned to start this thread.  Do you know if the code for that one is "P"?  If so, I have two pictures on file, but they are nowhere near good enough for us to work with.

I haven't seen anyone doing 100% correct leaf or coil spring decals for the first gen Camaro. The ones out there today are printed on a vinyl/plastic type of material and are way to glossy. Most are not even the correct colors, especially the 69 mulit leaf "BM" code stickers. The originals are a cloth/paper type material in silver and have black lettering; the repros are yellow with black lettering and there is one that doesn't even have the correct font! Don I would love to see someone make these decals correctly. I may be able to supply with originals to make repros for certain applications......................RatPack............................

rat pack - Spring tags is the exact reason I got into this "dacal" stuff about 9 or 10 years ago.  When I was searching for spring tags for my F41 69 Chevelle there were none available.  The suppliers, and producers of them, only had tags available for the more common cars.  A GM bulletin I have indicates a total of 9 different front springs and 7 different rear springs available for 69 Chevelles.  Seems to me I saw something regarding 69 Camaros and they had even more.

Anyway, I made up my own spring tags for my 69 Velle.  The word started to get around and I ended up doing lots of them for fellow Chevelle enthusiasts.  Most of them were similar to my situation wherein the codes they needed were just not available elsewhere.  Then the Camaro guys started asking for them and I have done numerous of those as well.

Keep in mind my research was done for Chevelles.  Any Camaro input has come from the owners themselves as far as codes, numbers, colours, etc.  Mine are obviously not in the form you refer to as far as "texture" of the product.  Mine are done on peel off backing paper and are sealed on the surface with clear 3M vinyl.  Somewhat glossy yes, but maybe not as much as what you are referring to.  Also, the fonts were taken from original Chevelle tags way back when.  I use the same fonts for the Camaro tags which may, or may not, be correct based on some of your input.

Here is a picture from my website (http://www.angelfire.com/rock/69ss/index.html) of the first Camaro springs I did years ago.  My templates are such that any colour of print and background are available. Just thought I would give a little history on the ones I do.

ratpack, that is what I have read, i.e. repro's not correct. Thank You! Maybe Don can help us out.......eh!
This one is advertised as correct but is it other than the material being incorrect as you mentioned (color/font acceptable) or?

And what about this repro for the rear springs? Supposed to be correct other than material used or?

These are examples of what I have but have not used to this point.

I have spoken to the folks at ECS a while back and they say their tags are correct in every detail and created from known tags.
Not sure of the paper stock though (I never asked them).

Talked on the phone with rat-pack tonight.  It's been years since we've talked, but he is still a "motormouth"  :)  He certaihnly seems to have a wealth of knowledge on Camaros.

We're going to be tossing around a few things I guess.  We'll see where it all leads.

Have a few things happening right now.

First - Received some pictures of original 69 Camaro Spring Tags from an unlikely source - a good Chevelle buddy of mine.  Over the weekend I also purchased on-line the proper font for these (it is a weird one, but correct).  Rat Pack is suppose to get me some pictures as well.  Look for some comparisons in the near future once I get some time to work with them.

Second - Received a picture from Ed (enio45) of the original Jacking Instructions Decal on his low mileage 69Z.  I've asked for some better quality photos which I'm sure he will provide.  I will talk to my software guru to see if he wants to tackle another one of these.

Know I'd be interested in correct coil and rear spring labels for our multi-leaf 68Z.
Go get em Don :)

Don - have you given any thought to making the black air breather sticker discussed on this thread?

Funny you should mention that Marty.  I was spending time fine tuning all my decal files and customers today and came across one of these we did quite some time ago.  To be honest I don't remember when, or who for, or what application it is for. It is coded CU.

I remember now why we didn't take that item any further.  The corners are so weird on originals and I'm afraid I just could not replicate the edges to my satisfaction.  The corners are almost three different angles/cuts.  Here's a picture of the one we did.  As said, I can't recall what it is for.  I would have to check the original pics sent to verify again how accurate it was.  The supplier of the picture and ourselves also didn't know if the lettering should be White or Gold.

Marty - here is the original picture supplied to me.  Obviously the enthusiast wanted the code and part number changed to suit their needs.

You can see a lot of errors in that reproduction you posted in that other thread.

Here are all four stickers combined. There is one missing that I wish I had filed away. Kurt posted it off of eBay but has since expired. I would like to compare it to your original. Anyway, your sticker is far more accurate than that other one which lacks the proper font, spacing, punctuation, etc.

The corners as you say are a hard call. Although I think you might be exaggerating them somewhat (just my 1 cent  :)). No telling what 40+ years of heat/elements can do to a sticker.

Can you or anyone else tell me what “CU”, “CV”, & “CO” stand for and why so many variations? And, which one of these would be correct for a '69 L48, 12A build?

Don,    Are you guys going to tackle the 69 Jacking Instructions?  What is the date on the picture that Ed provided?

David, the one on Ed's car is dated 10-1-68 part number 3949506.  I just got the new pictures in.  His original is in unbelievable shape, best original I have ever seen.  I have contacted Shaun to see if he wants to take this one on.  Jacking Instructions decals are intricate and take quite a bit of time.

I'm sure there were several versions for 69 Camaros, but at least this is the first one presented to us.  Stay tuned.

Don any plans to make a 69 L48 emission decal? I didn't see one on your site or did I miss it?
Also would like to see a "DE" Air Cleaner Service decal for a 69.

Believe it is the same as the Z/28 one we just finished.  Several engines included on that decal.

Really cool. I'll run back to your site and fire up an order. My current was wiped with lacquer thinner in the 80's guess I should remove it before installing yours?

Any hope for the DE Air Cleaner Service decal for SS350/300 with ZL2 hood?  I looked everywhere and didn't see one.
