Title: Steering colunm number for 1969 RS/SS 4 speed Z 10
Post by: hdptsr on June 19, 2012, 01:52:32 PM
I have a build date of 04C.  I am tryoing to find the correct production number tilt steering colunm for my car.  What is the correct production numbers for a four speed with a tilt colunm for a 1969 RS/SS?

I have a 04c Z 10 with tilt. I remember the date code is on the lower part of the column. I don't remember a part number but there may be one. I'll try to look under the dash and see what I can see.

Theres a paper tag on the top of the column with the production assembly code on it.  My 04L  L48/TH350 with a console shifter has a code KB on it, and a part number.  See the attached picture.

The only thing I can find stamped is A99S. I found the old Camaro Enthusiast artical written by Ian Johnson and it has a lot of info. But the date code format I believe was different in different years. There may be some more stampings under the rubbger floor boot as what I found is close to that. I don't remember the sticker on mine when I restored it. But it may have been on there. I did mine before didgital pics so probably don't have any pic os it.

I had assumed the KB was the ECL code that ultimately ended up on your window sticke 5N33KB but most ECLs for the columns seem to have much lower letter combinations, like BA, BB etc.  The sticker was up on top of the column behind (towards the dash) where it bolts to the under dash support.

The broadcast code (like the "KB" on the part number sticker on the column) and the ECL code on the window sticker are two different animals, assigned by separate groups for different reasons; if they're the same, it's strictly coincidental.

Oh, so the KB code should show up on my Chassis (or body) broadcast sheet (if I had one), that makes more sense.
