Post by: clm69z28 on June 13, 2012, 04:57:31 AM
Ebay item http://www.ebay.com/itm/330702718155.  Any opinion as to the stamp and condition?

my opinion....   It looks like it was a 1111481 and they changed it to 480.

Compared stamped to my original. All I can say is that if that  is a re-stamp, then the fraud quality is getting scary. On my dist, however, the  year stamp '8' (mine is '68 manuf) is closer to the date. Don't know if that matters.

I am looking for a may 111480 as well, and have looked closely at this one sold by the king. It would be nice if Kurt or Jerry would share their knowledge here.

Sorry, your reputation precedes you. Thought you may have a decent picture library of original 1111480 distributors, or would have a decent knowledge to tell if this one was original or not.

I have thousands of engine pad pics. But I had to draw the line somewhere. :)

Jerry might have an opinion on it. Ask him.

May be a restamp as there appears to be a "1" hiding under the left edge of the "0". I have a 481 distributor with a build date of 9 D 1 and other than the "0" it appears exactly the same.......RatPack...............

Here is the picture from the auction enlarged showing what appears to be a "1" behind the edge of the "0"............RatPack............

great pictures guys, another difference is how oval the zero is vs. the other 480 the zero is more round in the stamp. I think we have our answer, i wonder if the King over paid for it or if made it?

Are you speaking of the 'zero' being crooked?   :)

Are people paying that kind off money for real 1111480 distributors?

The most expensive I saw one go was 900 a few months ago, since then I have seen them 700 a couple of months after that, and then 500.

It might mean that all the *real* ones are in use, and people are now 'making them'...?

The ones I saw that sold looked legit, the one for 700 was given the ok by jerry.

When I bought my car in 1975 it had a 600 Holley and a dual point aftermarket distributor installed on it. Before I left I asked if he had any other parts for the car, I walked out with the original carb and distributor. Guess it never hurts to ask!

I see what the concern is on the mark behind/next to the 0, but if you look to the left in the photo you can see the same kind of mark at about the same position.  I wonder if that wasn't part of the machining process and it just happened to end up under the #?  Even Ratpack's distributor seems to have something that looks like a similar type marking. I can't disagree on the zero though.

It also looks like a second "2" behind the 2. Like it was double stamped? The "O" definitely looks to be a different font, but don't know if that's OK or not.

I don't believe Chuck restamps anything.  However, he had restamped it, he would be selling as a restamp.

I am still not convinced it is a restamp.  One would have to find another 9 E 12 distributor to compare, preferably a couple.

Well he doesn't say "genuine not a restamp", like he does in his other auctions, seems fishy to me
