Title: Tires - how wide to go on my 14x6 rallys?
Post by: texasappraiser on July 12, 2006, 05:19:13 AM
I'm thinking I can go to a G60-14, or a 235/60-14, without looking odd or wearing the tire centers prematurely. What are your thoughts or experiences? Thanks, Lance in Brenham, TX.

215's are about the widest you can mount on a 6" rim without distorting the cross-section of the tire, according to the tire manufacturer's specs and the Tire & Rim Association specs.

I think that  G60's are way to flipping big. Would look really starange , especially on 6" wheels. I did as JohnZ did and went with 215-65's on 15x7 wheels on all 4 corners for that more stock look.  Very close to the stock height also.

Yep, stick to John's advice.

When I bought my 68 327/powerglide, the previous owner had just put 15x7 rally wheels with brand new WIDE tires on it.  Since my car is a driver for now, needless to say, I'm going to run them for a while.  You can't tell by my thumbnail picture, but too wide is not a good look.  Eventually, I'm going to stock.
