Title: 69 front bumper guards
Post by: DT on May 16, 2012, 12:44:48 AM: Anyone have original front bumper guards on their 69 ?? I'm looking for a picture if possible of the lower mounting points on the valance. Thanks :)

In the mean time here are a few pics from a set I found from an old thread over at TC. Evidently this guy was trying to sell them back in '09. I am assuming they're the real deal;

Just wanted to confirm if it was worth the 160 to rechrome or buy NEW repro's. I'm NOT going to rechrome repro's at 160 a pair when I can get them for 119 new. Thanks again.

If so, can you post a couple of pics showing the tall tale signs of originals…stamps etc., if applicable. Also, I agree with Jack…nothing like original equipment so if you can swing it get em chromed. There is a Company over in El Paso that does excellent work and is very reasonable. Probably not very far off what you'd pay for repops.

Post by: DT on May 17, 2012, 01:08:37 PM: No I'm afraid I couldn't find out much information between the two. I have an original rear set I remember had NO markings on them. I did notice the repro's have the letter "R" on the tab which seems to be upside down. Thats all I have at this point.

(but I don't have repro ones to compare to).. :)

Yes, I just went and pulled them out; and I had previously opened one of the boxes. The guards are Left and Right. On the bottom of the guard, where it bolts to the valence, there is an 'L'.. apparently for Left side (I haven't opened the other box). Also inside the guard was a stamp 'SP'... check out the images I've included.

Suggestion: if you have 'original' guards needing chrome, if you have a good chrome shop, their chrome will be MUCH better than the factory chrome, and I also believed a 're-chromed' original' is preferable to either an NOS or a reproduction guard.
