Title: Top boot front lifting on highway
Post by: srode on April 29, 2012, 06:34:24 PM
So my top boot doesn't want to keep the front edge tucked in when I drive it on the highway, it starts lifting a little in the center and then after a while the hole leading edge by the rear seat is up in the air flapping - How were these supposed to be kept in place so they don't lift up and flap?  It's really tight around the well trim - hard to get the thing stretched enough to get the clips over it.  Suggestions?

Do you have the factory snaps that are on each arm rest?

Yes, snaps on the armrest are there and fastened.

Is it the original boot?  I have my factory original boot and it never slips out.  If you leave it in the sun for a little while it will be easy to clip on.

Not original, I bought it about 20 years ago I would guess.

My original boot has never done that either. I always found it very - very tight in the front and on the arm rest clips and at the pinch-well molding clips. Main reason its rides in the trunk almost all of the time unless at a show. I know folks always complain about the re-pop clips. How much room is there between the seat back and the boot in the dead middle? Maybe you need to shim it out a bit to make it snug.

There's probably 6 inches of overlap before I tuck it under the folded top in the center.

My boot is really old but don't know if it's original.  I probably drive a little too fast a little too much but had the same problem.  Had the guy who did my top (he does a lot of fabulous one-off work) put 3 small chrome snaps in it.  I know, it's not original but sure looks nice and problem solved.  Don't think anyone's ever even noticed 'em.

where did you buy it?  I might replace mine - but was also thinking about having either a stiffener or some weight sewn in the edge of this one to keep it in place.
