Title: buyer beware 1969 Z/28 on ebay paperwork looks like a scam
Post by: BULLITT65 on April 25, 2012, 12:56:26 AM
Hey guys,
I saw this listing the other day on ebay # 230778509840,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&item=230778509840&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_500wt_1182
looked initially like a clean car at first glance. I then read the description where he goes onto say how this is an early production Z and that he has original documentation for it including the dealer sticker, and that it is some gold crown show winner. I look back at the pictures and see the ZL2 hood and regular spoilers, and then look back at his dealer sticker. The car seems to early to have the regular spoilers, seems like it would have had the shorter spoilers, and it seems like it is to early to have had the hood as an option. I email the guy asking about these observations, and his response " Go F*ck yourself! "
So it makes me wonder as to the validity of the rest of the car. What do you guys think are my observations correct?

I believe your observatins are correct. There are other things that look wrong too. For example, chrome tail pipes. Also, according to Jerry's book, VIN 508... were built in November, not October. So, he has some facts wrong too. I am always suspicious of such vehicles when there is no picture of the  trim tag or partial VIN on the block.

I note lots of bids, but the price is too low for a true numbers matching RS Z IMHO.

I just ask for pics of TT and block stamp. I also mentioned M21 on window sticker which is obviously a fake and the ad said M22. See what kind of fire that lit.

Also, the head rests are not the early type that are straight.  The ones pictured in this car are the later ones that are angled forward.

Remember, he did state "restored to exactly or better than what GM offered in 1969."  So, the inconsistencies just make it "better".

508815 VIN   makes it an early car.  But wait !!  The window sticker says its a factory cowl hood car !!!   Wow !  what a find !   Everybody else had to wait till january to get a cowl hood.   very special car...

to bad ebay doesn't have a way to give reviews about a listing being honest. Looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen....

Trim tag is a repro. The car used to be 79-79 711.
He sent me an engine pad pic - isn't a great pic, but looks possible original.
