Last week I drove my convertible 236 miles one way from Charlotte to Sea Brooke Island SC. The weather was perfect for the convertible.
To review my car it is an original L65 car now with a 67 q jet 69 GM cast iron intake, 4 speed, 3.08 rear gear.
I went done on Spring Break to chaperon my senior daughter and a friend. Well I did not see much of my daughter and did not think I would so I planned on cruising my car around the Low Country of SC. I found a scenic road along the Stono River on James Island. The road was flat in good condition no lights and best of all had 300 year old oak trees on both sides of the road with branches that had grown together creating a foliage tunnel. To top it off the branches had Spanish Moss dripping from the branches. This was one of the best cruising roads I have been on. The name of the road is River road. I took the road over to Folly Beach Which was about 29 miles. This part of SC is clearly on of the best cursing areas I have experienced.
My car averaged 20 miles per gallon going down but I took back roads and did not get much over 60 MPH. On the way back I took the interstate and traveled between 65 and 70 MPH. Gas mileage was 16 mpg.
The car did great going down and back with no problems at all. There is something to be said for a high gear ratio mild horsepower small block! However, I still wouldn't take anything for my high winding 69 302 with a 4.10 Z28.

Hey lawrance. I got 18.2 in my vert going to run to the sun. 230 miles. Automatic with 3:31s L48. But we ran between 70 and 80.

Living in sunny So. Cal I cruised down to Balboa Pier for a photoshoot with my Butternut "69 Vert L48 Auto. Beautiful weather, Beautiful Models really complimented the car.
Did not really care about the gas mileage ( drove about 115 miles roundtrip ) as much as I did about watching the Sunset on the beach.
We are really spoiled out here being able to drive our cars all year round in great weather, just one reason I have a "69 Convertible, but I compliment that with a '69 RS/SS Coupe and '68 Z28 I drive all 3 whenever time allows me to take them out.

Yea you guys have the weather for sure. We vacation in Santa Barbara and there is not a prettier location and great weather for classic car crusiing. I see so many old cars of all types being used as daily drivers when I go out there. Once I saw a guy cruising around in what looked like a daily driver 69 Charger R/T complete with a huge CB antenna. Novas, Camaros, VW's etc, being used as daily drivers it's a trip. Cars just last a lot longer out there due to the dry conditions....I guess.
Here in the Southeast we can cruise our cars year round it is just hot in the Summer but makes for great night time cruising with the top down and a tee shirt and shorts on. Here in Charlotte, Spring, Fall and early Winter are best in my opinion like i said Summer can be tough.
