I am wondering if the pointed bolts that fasten the latch to the radiator support were ever recalled or at least amended on the assembly line with bolts that were non-pointed and perhaps a tad shorter.
I ask because this is one of the dumbest things I have seen. All correct bolts and assembly as per the FAIM.

Not only did it cost me months of hair pulling trying to find why my charging system failed to operate (it grounded the field wire) it could have easily grounded the 10R wire instead, causing a meltdown or fire.

The NHTSA only lists one recall for the Camaro in 69 - Engine Mounts see link:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=VEHICLE&year=1969&make=CHEVROLET&model=CAMARO&component_id=0&TYPENUM=1&SUBMIT=Retrieve%20Recalls&summary=true&prod_id=1483&PrintVersion=YES
other recalls 67-69 GM (not division/model specific):
Rally Wheel trim ring clips
Hot Slot intake manifold / Rochester Carburetor failures

I know mine's a '68 but my wire goes over the top of that bolt. Yours looks like it's right along side it.

My bolt holes and clip holes are not that close. Is that a reproduction core support?

It's not original to the car, but it is a GM part-numbered support bought in the mid-late 90's, through Classic I think. Back in their B+W catalog days.. It wasn't NOS..
EDIT:
I was just thinking some more about what you said..
My latch is GM and original to the car, or at least a GM part of the era.. Quite sure not a repo. I've had the car since '92 (before repos were manufactured) and I've never replaced it.
It has a hole in it that lines up perfectly with the loom clip, so it doesn't crush it when fastened in place. So it's kinda strange if you say yours is in a different location.
Got any pictures?
Here's mine..

Steve,
My 67 has the same hole locations but my wiring harness bundle is half (5 w/R/S) the size of yours. I believe the wiring problem was missed in 69 when they changed the A/C compressor and alt. locations and added the additional wiring to your wiring harness.
Question: Was the wiring harness installed after the hood latch at the factory. If it was, then that could be your answer. If not, then it should have been but then you could have a chafing problem. :(
So, do you fix the potential problem or keep it original??????
Bob.

The wiring harness (and A/C condenser) was assembled to the radiator support before the hood latch and center grille support were installed.

JohnZ,
Is there a clearance problem with the bolt and harness on your 69?
Bob

john's doesnt have A/C
-
I checked my 69 camaro wiring harness and it does not have a harness retaining wiring clip in this location.
-
copo,
Do you or anyone else have a clearance problem, chafing?

Looked at 69 AIM 12 A5. Shows offset clip that should take care of Steve's problem.
I should have looked at the AIM first. :-[

Naturally I repaired the insualtion on the damaged field wire which the core was still intact, and then installed a similar but non-pointed bolt so it doesn't tap into the loom.
I remember being aware of it during the resto, but this happened at the panel shop when the sheet metal was being fitted and painted. No way do I blame them. How on Earth would/could they have known?
I made the loom myself as you may be aware this car is RHD and I added the A/C, There are no A/C wires passing there, -just a couple extra back to the LH headlamps from the relays.
Have I misread the FAIM? Is there supposed to be no loom clip in this position?
-
Something I norticed when l was looking my mate's deteriorated 68z, was that his loom was hanging down aith an clip offset, and it was also pointing rearward..
I've just had a better look at my FAIM (UPC12-A5), and sure enough, an offset clip is specified here. It also shows the manual to point rearward for it's installation into a hole between the two J-clips for the shroud support.
Looks like I made a mistake here.. I made that loom. :-[
Restores my faith in GM, but not so sure about me! ;D

So, I wonder what the two holes that line up in the latch and support are for.. ???

Old thread I know; but now that it has been resurrected, I have to ask:
I see this quoted all the time: "other recalls 67-69 GM (not division/model specific): Rally Wheel trim ring clips..."
I have never seen any evidence or official paperwork on such a recall. So many of the four clip trim rings survived (I have four on my Z/28) that one has to wonder if it is a myth. Protocol would have been to replace them and destroy the old ones.
