What is the average date on rear diff. versus build date of trim tag. I have read that engine was 30 days or so. Does trans and rear follow pattern.

Here are my 2 67 rear dates (plus engines):
NOR 5B - 396/MT/3:31 posi - date - 0331 - This is the performance rear option. Lag about 6 weeks. (engine date 0308)
LOS 4B - 396/AT/3:07 non-posi - date - 0404 - This is the standard rear for this base engine option. Lag about 9 days. (engine date 0214 - assembled with love :) )
I think the gear ratio installed may have an effect on the assembly date of the rear vs. the car.
The standard ratios should have less of a date lag because they would be used on all cars that didn't have the optional rear ordered, as is the case of my LOS car.

My 69 3.07 non posi axle is dated 2 days before the car left the plant, so it was actually assembled and shipped to Norwood while my car was on the line. My car is an 04L built car, that left the assembly line on April 30, 1969 around 10 pm.

My 02C Los Angeles built '68 Z/28 has a BU 3.73:1 positraction rear axle that was cast on January 3, 1968 and assembled on January 19, 1968.

My 05D 68Z has 05-17 on the rear end stamp. I don't remember the cast date. The engine ass. was 05-06

2 1968 z/28s built 02E
Mine BW1220G2 4:56
Another z/28 vin number 13 prior to mine
BX1109G2 4:88
They might have sold more 4:56 orders than 4:88 thus needing to restock more often....Joe

My 02D Z11 3.07 Non Posi was built late November or early December, don't remember the actual date but its in the ball park. So it's a significant time before the build of the car. Don't have any reason to believe it's not the original to the car, I bought it in 84.

The date code should be four numbers. Did you leave one out?

Looking at your rear code of being a 4:10, that is certainly a less common ratio option to order, IMO, even back in '68. Your date spread is no worst than Joe's (X66 714) cars that too have steep ratios. I would venture to say yours (and Joe's) are within a very acceptable range.
As for engine dates vs. cowl dates, I find it interesting how the small block Z's are so close compared to my BB dates (and other BB dates I have seen in the past). I guess it is partially dependent on when the model options 'catches on' to the buying public.
Interesting thread!

If original, I'd say that axle date is very atypical. All the others that we have data on in that timeframe are much closer - less than a month.

Hi, I'm looking for engine V0628MO.
Does your V0628MO block have your VIN stamped on it too?
I own a 68 Z/28 with the Protect-0-plate and it shows V0628MO as the engine number, and VIN matches my car, but the original block is missing.
Been searching for the engine and came across your post.
Thanks in advance for following up on this.
