Title: Removal the retention clips on the inner fender for wiring and hoses
Post by: 69Z28-RS on February 20, 2012, 06:42:01 AM
I'm trying to 'non-destructively' remove parts from my inner fenders for cleaning.  Pictured are the original clips for retaining the wiring harness and vacuum hoses along the drivers side inner fender.   Is it possible to remove these without damage for reinstallation?

They really weren't designed for re-use.  I suppose you could try gently pressing the plastic studs from inside the wheel well, with something like a 2x2 or stiff tubing that only goes part way down the stud.  Others here may have a better idea.  Not sure if the repops are 100% correct.

I got some of these that are GM when I bought mine from Classic Muscle. Might go that route and just replace them.

I have pulled them off with a small screwdrive...carefully and reused them.

I've taken mine off and on a number of times with no problems, but mine is still very flexible.

The after market ones are a little short "if you have the RS option" I just heated them up alittle & stretched them a bit.

I don't want to destroy them, so I was going to find 'another way' if it was not possible to reuse..  sounds like a couple of your guys have done so, so I'm going to try it..    it sorta looks like a little 'ball and socket' on the back....I wasn't sure if I should pull from the front, or push from the back....?

thanks for all the comments...  giving me courage.  :)

Have you thought about using a little heat? Maybe a hair dryer?

Like your style...let us know how it turns out.

Thanks Marty...  Yes, adding a little 'warmth' to the old plastic part might help..   :)
