Title: Alternator Belt 69 Big Block without AIR pump
Post by: adams69camaro on February 14, 2012, 12:29:28 AM
Anybody know the correct alternator belt for a 69, 396/375 without air pump?  Just water pump, fan and alternator with deep groove pulleys.  I don't see one listed in the restoration parts books.

Do you have the 63 amp alternator?

You don't see it listed because there isn't one. The 69 Camaro big block engines all came with the smog pump and for the L78, the belt went around the crank pulley, the alternator pulley, the water pump pulley and the smog pump pulley. The AIM shows the routing on UPC L78, sheet A6 and the belt was P/N 3921934.

(By the way, the 63 amp alternator wasn't available on the L78.)

THIS (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Camaro-Alternator-belt-all-396-no-63A-/230689225195?hash=item35b62639eb&item=230689225195&pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr) is the belt you need, but again, you have to have the smog pump installed. (And save your money. From a very reliable source, these belts aren't very good.)

This is the belt I put on,a dayco top cog 45 inches long, got it at Summit Racing cause couldn't find one locally.Their part # DAC-15450. Dayco belt is 11mm wide compared to 10mm gates belt. I was having slippage on alt. pulley with the thinner belt. Just put it on ,we'll see how it works.  69 L78
