Title: Looking for original AC cars
Post by: NoYenko on February 03, 2012, 01:47:48 AM
I am restoring a 69 396 AC car built in Nor. Nov 68. The water control valve # 3940250 on my car I believe is original. Riveted to the skirt. Has the extra stud next to the vacuum port. It is stamped with "Ranco" as the manufacturer & "Type H 25". I took it apart to replate it Gold like the repo I bought but inside it looks Silver Zinc.
I can't remember seeing a silver valve, same part was used on Corvette, and haven't found anyone who confirms it should be silver. Found a picture in my archive of a Yellow 69 with what appears to be original valve in silver. I don't know where I got that picture.
Does anyone have a car with an original valve that could verify the plating color?

My big block air car had another type valve. It had the linkage on the outside, much smaller. In the assm manual it showed 3 different valves as being installed during production....Joe

George - Obviously this isn't a born with install or a BB. But maybe it'll help.

Marty,Great picture. I am thinking that is the correct plating on the valve. Nice looking engine compartment and original ac hose.
Thanks

I re-plated the cover on my water valve (Zinc) & thought I would post a couple pictures. Now if I can get it back together without scratching it up.
