Title: Roof Rail Weatherstrip Install
Post by: SMoon67 on January 09, 2012, 06:40:52 PM
As the restoration of my 67 Camaro continues slowly, I'm now installing the metal rails that fit under the roof rail that hold the weatherstrip that the top edge of the side glass will fit against.

I need to know what you guys have used to seal the metal strips to the body.  I don't have those old parts here to look at so I need to know the best way to seal those strips before I screw them in and put the weatherstripping on.

The new metal looks good but the curve is not as sharp over the rear side glass.  Not sure how I'm going to prevent the thing from buckling.  Any suggestions on that?

Thanks for your assistance.

can you adjust the curve of the weatherstripping to account for the extra space on the rear side glass?  Or maybe cut out a small, but extra thick piece of weatherstripping to account for any extra space between the roof panel and the glass?  Also, to answer how to get the weather stripping firmly in place, you'l find pretty good auto adhesive products at your local auto store.

I found stuff to use as a sealer between the trim and roof rail.  I have no idea how I'll get the trim to match the curve of the rail without causing the trim to buckle.

I don't even know what it is.  Never heard of it.

I've never seen the roofrail channel not fit on all the cars I've done. Did you buy a repro part?

Yes it's repro.  As far as I know it's all that's available now.
