Does anyone know what is more correct the firestones or goodyears? Also does the build date /assembly plant make a difference what came on the car when it was new?I have a 11d los built 69z . Goodyears or firestones? thanks John

I think I've read on the Camaro sites that Firestones were more predominant on LA built cars, but I'm unsure if that was 'exclusively' Firestones or not...

John, there were several tires used on a 1969 Z28. Firestone Sport 200 E70, Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread GT and Uniroyal Tiger Paw. Cannot comment on whether LA used one, two or all three brands of tires and when, i would guess as GM clearly used several suppliers it must have been whatever was available at time of assembly.

I have never heard of a 68-69 Z/28 using Uniroyal tires. When I see one I will believe it.
I believe Goodyear was the primary supplier; Firestone filled in. SC200 was a strange tire; not sold through their retail stores.

Either way, I'd say no Tiger Paws. Tried a set back in the day.

From photos the original owner of my 69Z sent me it came with Goodyear Wide Tread GT's. It is an 01C Van Nuys car.

While the rate Camaros were produced at could not change, the mix could. High-Performance cars are in far greater demand during the early spring months tapering off into summer.
For example Sep '68 only 3.6% of production were Z/28; Feb '69 it was 13%. So production planners know they need 14,560 E70 x 15 tires for February; about 130 per day at peak. Goodyear knows it can't make them at that rate; Chevy looks for another supplier to cover the peaks. Both suppliers had to warehouse and ship from stock so which was on the line when is impossible to determine. They were probably mixed; cars built within minutes of each other could have different brands.
Don't forget COPO 9737 also consumed E70 x 15 tires.

My car is a 12C LA car, it has what I believe to be an original tire on the spare. Good-Year.

My 10C LA Z28 has the original Goodyear Spare Tire.

My 02D '69 Norwood Z/28 had its original Goodyear Wide Tread GT spare when I bought it eleven years ago, but it was too deteriorated to use, and I replaced it.

I have seen one late NOR Z with a Firestone SC 200 spare tire. At the time I thought it had been changed but know differently now.

I'd go with the Goodyear. To me the Firestone tread looks more like a light truck tire.

They are $310.00 each. I just bought a set of 4 on eBay with a little less than 700 miles on them for $670.00

I am currently restoring an 05C Norwood Z/28 JL8 with an original SC 200 Spare. I don't have any info as to whether the JL8 option had anything to do with tire selection. I would be interested if anyone has any documentation on the subject.

Which tire was installed in production on a Z/28 or COPO 9737 was purely random. Both were stocked in assembly. The only requirement mentioned in the assembly manual was that all had to match. Goodyear WTGT was the predominant brand; Firestone SC 200 seems to be secondary. A friend bought one of the last '69 Z/28s built; had SC200s.
Having been around in those days I know that Goodyear was by far a more popular choice as a performance tire. Not at all unusual for a Z/28 buyer to request a wheel swap with another car in stock to get Goodyears.

I think it was around 1970 that I sat a never ran SC200 on a rally wheel to the curb for the trash man to take. I think it was the spare out of my HO Z that I did not think i needed any more. Was not worth keeping at the time. lol
