Anyone on here know where I might find the Bucket Seat hinge teather cable? Runs along inside hinge on each seat from the seat back to the seat main frame. I can find the screw for each end but not the cable.
-
It's only on the passenger seat (driver doesn't need one since the seat back hits the steering wheel when pushed forward), and as far as I know, no one is reproducing them. Used would be your best bet.
The original part number (in Group 11.381) was 7726498 and it was also used on the 67-69 Corvair Monza. If you want I can ask my buddy Jeff at CALIFORNIA CORVAIR'S (http://www.californiacorvairparts.com/) if he has any. He won't be back until next week though (Christmas vacation).

ED, I'd be interested in one too if he has them. There is a thread on TC where someone got the exact dimensions and made one. I'll look it up. The pictures were missing, sorry.
-
>>>>>Ed;
Yes, I would be interested in one of these cables. I didn't realize this cable was only on the Pass. seat, that would explain why it was completely missing from the Driver seat(screws and all). I have the broken cable and the 2 screws for the Pass. seat, cable rusted through and broke right in the middle. I was thinking if I really had to a new one could be made with a new piece of cable and the 2 original ends.
-
Is this the cable guys? If it is, can it be adjusted because the seat-back hits the dash?
And, if anyone needs better pics and demensions let me know. I'll see if I can pull it and post.
-
Get ur done!
Marty, mine has a five inch cable and still misses the dash by about an inch and a half with the seat all the way forward.
Your picture looks like the cable still has a little slack in it???

Apparently, you supply the actual cable???

Ok guys, after the holiday I'll see what he can dig up for us (Yep. Me too. Mines' broken.)
Marty, if your seat is hitting the dash and you still have that much slack, there's something wrong. Measure the cable and see if it's the same as ours.

Spent close to a year looking for a supplier, found none. Made one myself, using a damaged one as a model. If it helps......overall length is 7 in., end connectors are 1 3/8 long with 3/4 OD, and 7/16 ID hole. Cable is 1/8 in diam. uninsulated. Grey insulation extends 1 in. past end of connectors (center 2 1/4 of cable is uninsulated). These dimensions were off the damaged cable on my '68.
-
Joesaur
Where did you buy the ends from and what did you use for insulation?
Thanks.

Will do...thanks Ed.

Posting a pic of mine from my '67, as they are a little different. The whole cable is coated black on mine, and the ends are not coated. Overall length seems to be the same. Connector length also seems the same. My Camaro is relatively early, maybe they changed sometime during production.
-
Danzo,
When I made a new cable (about 2 years ago), got the end connectors (Cable lugs) fron a local electronics parts supplier (in the SF Bay Area). You may be able to get them on line or from a local auto parts store. Mine are heavy duty, not the cheapie thin gauge aluminum you may see at Radio Shack. I used ones that were intended for engine bay connections. I crimped and soldered the connections, then filed off any excess solder. As to the insulation, I used the canned stuff (can't remember the brand) that's used to dip you pliers, etc. in to put insluation on the plier handles. Sprayed the finished product black to match my seats.

Ed - I finally had a chance to take a look at this; "Seat Back Stop Cable". As you can see by the pics, whoever upholstered the seats didn't bother reinstalling it to the seat-base. They simply left it on the hinge. Guess I was lucky they didn't just toss it in the trash. Is it safe to assume the red arrow in the first pic is the general location for anchoring the cable to the base? I'm pretty sure I can feel the female end of the bracket underneath the upholstery in that general area.
Second, can someone tell me where I can find the correct washer and screw in the second pic…AMK Products maybe?
And last, can someone post a pic of theirs anchored in the correct position w/the correct hardware?
-
AMK has the correct bolt and washer. I got it in my new bolt kit and they look identical including correct head markings.

Camaro Central has the correct head screws and pivot shoulders, as well.
-
Daniel - If its not too much trouble can you send me a pic of the hardware you received from AMK. I'd like to compare it to the hardware on reply/pic #4.
Thanks Phillip...

It'll be tomorrow but I'll get it no problem.
-
Sorry guys. I haven't had a chance to speak to Jeff yet, but I promise I'll call him Tuesday. So how many guys need the cable?
Ed
-
One here.
-
Ed, I'm still interested.
-
I need 2, one for each of mine if you can get them.
-
My 67 is missing it all. I too would be interested. Thanks.
-
Hi Guys,
Here are some pictures of an original replacement tether cable I have on my '69. My original was missing, so I purchased a very clean used original. I lightly wire brushed the hardware on my pedestal grinder then waxed them to give some protective coating. The hardware is original for reference.
Good luck with your projects to reproduce the cables.

Ok guys. I just spoke to jeff and he's going to see what he has and call me back. It may take a few days to get to the seats (they're in a different storage area), so stay tuned.
Ed
-
Thanks for checking Ed!
-
Well, the news isn't good guys.
I just spoke to Jeff and he does have several sets of seats, but most of the cables are broken, missing, cracked, etc... The two that he found that were still in good shape are attached to seats that are also in good shape, so he doesn't want to pull the cables off and sell them separately.
Looks like we're back to the drawing board on this one.
Ed
-
Thanks Ed, I appreciate the effort and will just consider it another wow factor if I do stumble across a set. Can't blame your friend for not wanting to seperate. I wouldn't either. J.R.
-
Thanks for trying Ed, much appreciated.
-
Ditto, Thanks Ed!

This cable is not difficult to make (see my earlier post). Mine may not pass judging, but it definitely protects the dash/glove box from being hit by the passenger seat. I used 1/8 inch diam. stranded cable for the center section as I'm not sure exactly what the factory used. Think that's the only deviation from original. Anyone know for sure what color the insulation was. See many photos with grey.
-
Finally got around to pulling the seat out to get to the cable. Here are a couple of pics. Both the cable and blade connector's insulation is gray. I Also included a few dimensions. Note; blade connectors are offset to one another.
If there's anything else you'd like better pics of let me know.

The cable on my 68 is black. The ends are coated and gray like Marty's.
Maybe they did change as time went on?
-
Hunt Craigslist for every seat you can find and ask the seller to part with one. Or try E-bay. I got mine from cars I parted out.
-
As I posted earlier, on my 67 the cable insulation is Black and the spade end connectors are not coated. I'm thinking if I heat up the ends, I may be able to pry them open. I have some spray Black plastic coating. I'm thinking if I can get the original ends off, I can put them on a new piece of cable and re-crimp them, maybe even silver solder them .
-
Any updates on a source for pass. seat teather cable? I sprayed my home made one black to match the seats......but wondered what the factory original cable color was.
-
We need John or somebody with a documented car to look at their strap.
-
I just checked both my '67 Camaros and found the following:
NOR 5B 760Z standard black interior (restored interior but used same cable) - gray cable coating and gray heat shrink ends
LOS 4B 760Z standard black interior (original survivor interior) - black cable coating and black heat shrink ends
Neither car has a cable on the drivers seat.
I think it may be safe to assume there were multiple colors.

My 02D Norwood '69 (Midnight Green deluxe interior) has a white strap with gray heat-shrink ends.
-
How about a red interior, anybody?
-
My 11D Norwood (Red standard interior) has a white strap w/gray heat-shrink ends like JohnZ. I can attach a picture tomorrow.

Here's my seat cable - the seat is pretty dirty from storage, but all original.

Looks like the cable was white, gray, or black, and perhaps random...
-
In post #76 I said my NOR was gray with gray ends, but looking at the picture Boston14 posted, that is more of what I have. It looks more like an off white (towards gray) to me.
So it looks like we are back to either "white" or black cables with either gray or black heat shrink ends.

My beat-up original cable (before I built a new one) had gray vinyl where center section meets the connectors, and a black center. Metal ends were unpainted. This was off a 68 LA build, Jan 1968.
-
Not sure if this helps, but my buckets are out of a '67 Firebird. They had standard covers and headrests. The cable, broken already when I bought the car in '83, is grey/grey.
-
Quite frankly I don't see any difference between my strap and that of Boston14's. They are both gray/gray or white/gray depending on the light, exposure, and camera used. I can take several pics of the same strap and everyone would be diff...

Here's mine 07A Norwood car. Grey with grey ends.

Here is mine off my 01C 67 SS/RS deluxe interior.

Know this is an old thread, but there's one currently listed on eBay HERE (http://www.ebay.com/itm/370965240146). Best do your homework to check originality and correct application, as it has a black cable (rather than gray) and appears to be lacking heat shrink over each end. But it does look similar to the strap from a '67, picture posted towards the bottom of page 1 by MyRed67.
-
Thanks Tim, it looks exactly like mine. I bought it, 'cause it's rare to find 'em. And it looks to be a very nice original. It took 2 years, but CRG comes through again. Thanks Guys for keeping this alive!
-
I have a couple of these I found in my misc. Camaro parts bin. They are from a 69 and are grey, and about 7" long. Not sure what they are worth, but if you are looking for one, email me and make me an offer.
