Title: Tire date decoding
Post by: lcmc on June 21, 2006, 01:38:17 PM
Is there a web site I can go to to decode tire dates. I need original tires for my 69SS 04C car and want to make sure I get the right ones. What would be correct Goodyear wide tread or Goodyear polyglas? Or both?

Why would you want "original" tires? They're only safe for rolling on and off a trailer. ::)

Nothwithstanding the probably hundreds of restored '69s with them there is no reason to believe ANY 69 was built with RWL Goodyear Polyglas tires.

Goodyear Wide Tread GTs, Firestone wide ovals [small letter] Uniroyal Tiger Paws were all used but only the Wide Treads are in repro.

Like the man sez don't even think of putting 37 year old tires on a car.

The reason I want originals is that the car is an original survivor car. They will be for show only. In the Vintage classes you don't get points for repro, only original or NOS parts. So can anyone answer my original question on date codes?

If you go to the Tire Rack site (www.tirerack.com), they have a tire marking/sidewall decoding page.
