Title: Trunk Mat cut for Spare tire hold down
Post by: srode on November 11, 2011, 09:56:13 PM
Does anyone have a survivor picture of the way a trunk mat is supposed to be cut for the spare tire hold down bracket welded to the floor of the trunk?  I have a convertible but am guessing a coupe would be cut the same way.

Steve - My car isn't a vert but here are a couple pics anyway. I like the way its cut because the flap doesn't hide the anchor. I also included a pic of the AIM, problem is I believe the illustration is w/o the mat. Anyway, this will kick your question back up to the top just in case someone has what you need and just missed the thread.

Attached is a photo of my original mat; it's torn to the left of the hole, but the cut to the right seems to be an original cut line?

Thanks for the picture - that looks like a pretty easy cut to replicate!

I have sent out pics to several members previously of my 67 convert's original mat. There's no flap, simply a rectangular hole with rounded corners. I'm traveling till next week, but would happily send pics, or a template if you wish, just PM me.

KIM there were two factories and several shifts at both. To say everything was done the same at both factories, and for all years when it comes to these cars would be false. Especially with a topic like this and at a time when robots weren't building them. Before reaching a consensus , I would certainly request several samples from both factories. ;)

Also KIM I know my mat isn't original but I think it serves as another posible method. Again, people made these cuts...

Here's the images I recieved via Email from 67 RS Ragtop, thanks for sending them.
Looks like a different cut than the 69 Z28, but this is a convertible too so perhaps
they were different by design?  From the shape I would guess this is die cut.

That's what my coupe looks like . Be sure to put the radius in the corner and not have a square corner or cut  it will split .

The photos I posted earlier are from my original mat, BUT.. it is torn in several places, so it is possible that although it *appeared* to me that one of the tears (on the upper right of the oval) was a cut, it could just as easily have been a 'straight tear'.  I did not remove the mat to examine it more closely as I probably would have torn it more...  I'd love to see a photo of an original 69 trunk mat in better condition than my own so I'd know for sure...  so if someone has one, please post it for ius all...   :)
