Title: Any thoughts on this '69?
Post by: CNorton on November 10, 2011, 12:15:57 AM
Received via e-mail in response to an ad in the L.A. Times.  VIN#124379L512578  Body tag#VN293802:

"This is not a Clone, it is a real SS. The car is in excellent working order, it has a clear and free title and the numbers match. The car was garage kept, has no mechanical problems and it is in perfect condition. The car was in California from 1969 to 2003, that's when the first owner sold it to the second owner, I'm the third owner. Description: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro numbers matching RS/SS 396 325hp, 31,243 miles, Transmission: Automatic. 325hp 396 starts, runs and accelerates perfectly. The California emission equipment is still in-place. The turbo-400 transmission shifts like new including kick-down into passing gear and the 12-bolt POSI rear end is quiet. Equipped with power DISC brakes. The car is all original but it was painted once. Look at the pics, I uploaded some documents from the first owner, cowl tag #, VIN# and some other numbers, even the plates from the first owner. Click this link to see pics: <https://picasaweb.google.com/109490771263526535990/69Camaro396> the car in the pictures is the one I'm selling you and that's the car's condition right now, the pics were made 5 days ago. I have driven this car almost daily (nice weather) for the last couple of months and it has been 100% dependable. I offer free shipping for the first 500 miles and low shipping fees for the extra miles. Send me your zip code for shipping fees and details.

PS: If you can't click the link, copy and paste it into your browser and than click GO."

It seems to have had a lot of work done to it for 31,000 miles.

My Brother worked at that dealership. There was a guy here in town that bought a 67 427 converted Camaro from them new.

This offer would seem to be a scam.  The asking price is far too low to be legitimate.  Has anyone ever seen this car, that VIN, or trim tag before?

Anyone who needs to state this sends up red flags.
$7000 and he'll include a bridge too. It's for sale in FL, CA, etc...

No, I hadn't run across that VIN before. Docs look OK, but I don't think he has anything but a computer.

IF this car is the REAL DEAL, shouldn't it have an X code on the Cowl tag????

Take a look at all the ads for the same car here starting on page 2. The ads are from coast to coast. The phone number(s) go nowhere. It might be a scam to get e-mail address or to sell you something...Joe

No x codes on VN tags, Norwood only.
