How does one tell the difference between an OE shift knob for MT with console (chrome knob) and a repop?

Thanks! I did a search but came up with a big fat zero.
-
Just to quantify the weight difference the originals are just under 4 ounces and the repops are just over 8 ounces.
-
Always use the advanced, more hits. ;)

originals are expensive if you can even find one.
the repop is about $20 , the last NOS original I saw on epay sold over $300
I sold an original with bad chrome on ebay and sold over $100
a nice original survivor ball with decent chrome , I would guess would sell $150 to $200

No doubt about it, my 69 Z is worth more as parts than as a complete car. Amazing!

You got that right brother.............

the net value of the parts may be more then the car but there is no free lunch
if you had to pay someone to disassemble the car and sell all the parts on ebay, classified ads, swap meets, lug everything around or do all the shipping etc, you probably only get 50% or less then the net value and would take some time to do it all

I was looking at a very nice car awhile back and thought if I sold the crossram and parts and the JL8 and parts, man I would have a nice reasonable driver. The parts were not matching #,s by the way but were GM.

How can you truly verify a part like this? Looking at the bottom of the shift knob, it looks as if its a 40 year old un-used part. But how can you tell with 100% certainty that its legit?

If you're unhappy after you receive the part, the seller offers a 7 day money back return policy. There's also "Ebay Buyer Protection"... http://pages.ebay.com/coverage/index.html

Shift ball sold for $899.00 if the deal goes through..............This buyer has the open check book mentality but congrats to the seller. The buyer must be building a million dollar car?

I was watching that auction. I don't know if that is a real deal or some ebay games as the last NOS ball sold for about $300
-
can an original chrome shift ball be replated as many replaters do not plate zinc parts
-
I had a bunch of them and they look like they are made of aluminum to me.
They can be replated. Many chrome shops who do motorcycle work can plate aluminum.
The chrome did peal off on the originals so many got replaced with a white Hurst aftermarket ball.
I think that is why they are hard to find now.
I only have seen a few that have good original chrome.
-
does anyone know of a reputable plater they have used to replate the shift ball
-
anyone interested in an original 4 oz shifter ball check ebay remember one sold for 900.00 just a few weeks ago this one is buy it now $250.00

It was real. The buyer is schmitty283 and he left this feedback comment... "been looking for one for a long time nice ball!"
