Title: 68 For Sale
Post by: sixt9x33rs on September 05, 2011, 04:22:27 PM
I thought someone may be interested in this car. Seems to be a good little car.

Very nice car and lots of documentation, Corvette Bronze is such a neat color. This will be a nice buy for someone, currently it's only at $17K and the reserve is met, be curious to see what it hammers away for.

Its getting harder and harder to find a 327 in this nice a condition that hasn't been striped/modified. If what is stated is true, 95% born with stuff & one owner, I agree, this will make someone a very nice car. Even though the "hammer" hasn't come down...when was the last time you saw prices like these for the real deal?

I see D80 on the car shipper sheet so I'd say the AM radio and rear antenna were dealer added at some point.

Also, what do you guys think about the partial VIN stamping on the engine pad?

I thought the partial vin looked odd but I would not think someone would restamp a low HP 327? I thought the assembly and suffix looked good.
When I first looked at this car this morning the bid was $6800...gotten a lotof attention. I don't think I have seen those wheel covers before?
Be cool if someone on this board would pick it up.

I think the partial Vin looks good. They just got too aggressive with whatever was used to take the crud off. I wish someone would comment on the wheel covers (were these an option?). Like my boys would say... those things are SICK!

Yep. RPO PA2. Only 4085 68's came with them.

Cool car! Great color combo. Nice engine comartment with the smog equipment, interesting diverter with the 180* outlets. Shift knob is cool too. Don't know if I like the wheel covers or the exhaust though.  :P

Yes to the wheel covers but no to the exhaust IMO.

Who added the RADIO???

Build sheet shows no radio indications and the Rear antenna wasn't available with D80 plus it's in the wrong place.
Wonder where the block off plate got to?

Probably dealer added. Fairly common back then.

Looks original.

Interesting order - mag wheelcovers, spoilers, stripe, top, but..... no ps, pb, and a 3-speed.

Wheelcovers look good from the side, but they stick out like a set of Dolly Parton's.

I knew there was a reason I was drawn to them :o. Although their probably down around her knees by now  ;).

Seriously, even though I think it's a nice looking wheel I do think they have their place. I think a 327 is a good marriage & maybe even an L48 (boarder line)...but, I certainly can't see these same wheels on a Z or on a BB.

I'm with Jack on this one, if I had them I would definitely hang on to them.

Yeah, I'd definitely keep the wheel covers, even though I don't care for the look. My first impression was maybe from a 3/4 ton Ford, with the 7inch, 6 lug bolt circle.  :D

I think those hubcaps are actually off of a mid-70's Chevy pickup truck. My friend had one with those wheels on it.

P/N 3918080, and optional in 68 and 69 on all models except Z28 and JL8. Not sure if that included trucks though since I don't have a truck P&A 31.

Is the chrome with pattern shifter ball original?  My friend put a used one (but 4 spd) on his 71 Z28 because he didn't like the stock piece.  This is the only other one I have seen that is chrome with a pattern on it.  Just wondering what they may have come with as stock items.  Certainly looks original here.  Please let me know if there's already a post on this.

My understanding for the 1968 is....with the D55 console option the shifter knob was all chrome with no shift pattern, the shift pattern was on the top of the console.  With no console, the shifter knob was a two piece unit with the shift pattern engraved on the top piece.

I noticed in the P & A manual the listings for the knobs associated with the shifters with no console only showed one part number, whereas the AIM shows two part numbers (one for the top half and one for the bottom half).  Don't have a clue for this discrepancy.  Maybe someone might know if the service replacement was different than the factory unit.  That might account for the chrome one with a shift pattern....but I don't know for certain.

The P&A P/N is for the "set" (Upper and Lower) while the AIM splits them out.

Anybody here watching Barrett Jackson Las Vegas Auction?   They're advertising a Corvette Bronze '68 SS 396, claiming that ALL Corvette Bronze '68 Camaro's were SS 396's. LMAO!!!!!
